Chapter 1
No, Today is NOT Just Another Day
Today is not just another day,
I don’t care what people say.
it’s been five long years.
Five long years of tears.
Today is not just another day,
It’s been five years since you left n went away.
So many emotions, I’ve been so angry with you,
You left me here alone and blue.
No, today is not just another day,
N I don’t care what people say.
All the I love yous, n I’ll be here for you.
Where the hell are they all now that I cry for you?
Today is not just another day,
When you left, I lost my way.
I was so mad,
so sad.
No, today is not just another day,
it’s been five years since you went away.
I still have this empty spot in my heart,
but I’m no longer falling apart.
Today is not just another day,
I still wish you’d come back and stay.
But I’m learning to understand why
You had to say goodbye.
Today is not just another day,
Yes, my world still feels sometimes grey.
I’m trying to love life here on my own,
I’m trying to live it like I was shown.
No, Today is not just another day,
My stomach still grips, my chest goes tight, n all I can do is walk away.
For the tears, I just can not allow to show,
Cuz although I am weak, I have to hold it together like a pro.
No, Today is deff not just another day,
It’s been five years since you went away.
N although it is hard for me without you here,
I know in my heart you are always near.
Today is not just another day,
Five years ago, my hero went away.
Nothing ever remains the same,
But I have let go of the self-blame.
No, Today is not just another day,
Life continues to move forward without delay.
I hope you're proud of all you look down and see,
N that you’ll be standing at the Pearly Gates for me.
In loving memory of Dave Patterson

Hi! I just finished reading your poem, and first let me say that I am sorry about your loss. It's never easy to lose a loved one, but it takes a tremendous amount of courage to put what you are feeling into words, not to mention putting it out there for others to see. Your poem expressed your emotions beautifully and to the point. Everyone grieves in their own way, and at least you found a positive and constructive means to do so. You might want to look into the authors publish e-newsletter (I think if you just Google author's publish it will pop right up). They send out weekly updates on poetry contests, free publishing platforms, and magazines/e-publications that are looking for material. I've had some success with getting my poems out there and the newsletter is really helpful in giving you a place to start. Good luck with future poems!
My dog and my grandma both had heart attacks today. They both passed. My heart hurts and I don’t know what to do. How did you get through it?
