Chapter 1: The Accident

It was October 25, 2013.

Sometimes we take life for granted and we expect it to never suffer the consequences of passing time. We think that life goes on for years and although there are many incidents and deaths that happen every day, we never expect it to happen to us or to someone very close to us.

Who knew this one day could change the rest of my life forever?

Life is full of surprises like that. We go through so much crap every day, but the worst is when all of that crap comes unexpectedly. When someone is bullied every day, they know what to expect the next day or even in the next moment. But when someone's life is going perfect and then a life altering incident occurs, it just seems to hurt more because of how unexpected it is.

Who knew that my life could change from perfect into disastrous within just a few short seconds?

Who knew?

Well it started just like any other day. It was a Monday and I got up at 6:30 a.m., just like any other day, so I started my day with getting dressed in my school uniform. It was a red and yellow plaid skirt, a white long sleeve shirt with eight buttons on the front of it, a bright red tie and a light blue jacket over the shirt and tie. Then I went to my personal bathroom to take a shower for roughly half an hour, avoiding washing my hair that morning since I just washed it the day before. I went downstairs to have Frosted Flakes cereal for breakfast and quickly went to my bathroom to brush my teeth and left the house.

It was bright and sunny day and I was usually happy and cheery myself, even on rainy and gloomy days, so it was ironic that I had a nervous and scared feeling in my stomach. I felt like something bad was going to happen that day but I didn't know what it was. If only I had listened to my instincts, maybe they would still be alive today. Maybe that feeling was meant to warn me, so that I could prevent it from happening. You may be wondering what I wanted to prevent from happening that sad day. Well that was the day of ....The Accident. It was the day that changed my life forever. Whether my life changed for better or worse, I'm not sure yet. But it has definitely changed in more ways than I can say.

Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself. As I said, I completed the test of my normal morning routine. I ate breakfast, brushed my teeth, and did my hair. Then I went to school. My friend Mia was already waiting for me outside of my house for me in her new car she had gotten for her birthday a week before. She always picked me up for school in the morning, since I still haven't gotten my drivers license. My parents are old fashioned and want me to wait until I'm at least eighteen before even attempting to get it. Huh. Never thought I would miss their strict rules and restrictions. But Mia and I have a deal. Every time she drives me somewhere, she marks it down in a red notepad I gave her a while ago. Then, when I finally get my license I owe her that many rides. Those will add up to so many rides by senior year that I might as well be her personal chauffeur. I remember the whole school day clear as day. It was filled with boring lessons and I just wanted it to be over with. But now I wish I could just relive that day one more time so I could say my goodbyes.

I usually walked home alone and I did the same thing that day. When I got home my parents had already arrived and said we were going out to eat. I quickly ran upstairs to my master bedroom to get changed into a nice violet lacey dress. We finally left the house at around five p.m., after I finished my homework. I had the shrimp and rice at The Disston. My mom had the chicken and pasta. Finally, my father had the fish and fried rice. We were done eating and paid the bill at around seven p.m. But on our way home.....something happened. It was the accident. A car was swerving in between the right and left lanes. My dad tried to turn in order to avoid the car. However, it was too late. We had crashed with a loud *bang*. I started feeling my vision getting hazy, but I tried to stay awake. I needed to know what was happening. After just a few seconds, I couldn't take it anymore. It was becoming harder and harder to stay awake as I was beginning to feel the pain from my wounds becoming more intense. I finally let my eyes close, and soon, as much as I tried to not give into the darkness, I became surrounded by it.

My parents died on the scene. However, I was rushed to the hospital and into the emergency room. I went right into surgery and they said I was lucky to be alive. But when I found out about my parents' death, I was heartbroken. I wished that I had died in the accident as well. When I was released from the hospital, I locked myself in my room for a few days and deprived myself from food and water. I was broken. Was it my fault? What could I have done to avoid my parent's death?
