Chapter 1
PREFACE
THE BOOK OF PROPHECY AND REVELATION
Excerpt from Chapter 13
“In the near future comes the reign of locusts. Brought upon by a single individual born of incredible power, this man of locusts shall spread the will to all men and unite them with the earth and nature. Make their minds reach full potential, and bind each with one of the seven natural elements that make up our world.”
Errick Cunningham entered through the front door of his house, shutting it behind him. He let his backpack slip off and set it down by the kitchen table. His Hanover Grove home was silent and seemingly empty. Unzipping his jacket, he walked into the living room and halted when he noticed somebody sitting on the couch. It was his older brother, Adam.
“How was school?” Adam asked casually, gazing at the floor.
Errick hesitated a moment. “What are you doing here?” He finally replied.
“What? I can’t stop by to visit my younger brother?”
This was unlike Adam. He never visited Errick and their parents, except when he needed a favor or tried to borrow money. His sudden arrival left Errick curious.
“Mom and Dad here?” Errick asked.
“No. I came to see you, not them.”
Errick sensed something changed about Adam, something new in his overall aura. It took barely a second to be reminded.
Adam had become a possessor of telekinesis and its illusion.
Errick’s superior abilities as the Silver-Swarm allowed him to read anyone’s telekinetic or supreme power. Standing and staring at his older brother, Errick remembered that it’s been nine days since Adam discovered his illusion of green lightning. It would be months before he evolved into a supreme possessor.
“What do you want?” Wondered Errick, turning away from him to take off his jacket.
A sudden sharp prick struck the back of his neck. Errick yelped and reached a hand to the pain, feeling an object jutting into his neck. He immediately pulled the thing out and examined it. Some sort of dart - like a tranquilizer. Even though he was the Silver-Swarm, there was nothing his powers could do to counteract these effects. After all, he was still a human teenager, and still succumbed to human weaknesses.
The room went black before him, and Errick collapsed to the floor.
Nicholas Sutton and David Richards passed the private property sign that stood outside the woods, a sign that they had put there themselves, and entered into the collage of brown trunks and green leaves. The two walked about two acres deep through the woods until coming upon the hut-like structure that was grown over by veins and leaves. Staring at it, Nick and David both realized how much the Fortress had changed since they first discovered the place.
The two approached the eastern side, facing a gray brick wall mostly concealed by nature. Nick parted some leaves on the wall and found the entrance button - a quarter-sized circle with the number 3 in its center. Nick pressed the button three times in succession. There came a small release of air pressure from the outlines of the hidden doorway, and Nick and David took a step back as the entrance steadily swung open. The two entered the Fortress, and the automatic door shut itself, becoming unnoticeable once again.
Joe looked up from his repairs, seeing Nick and David coming in. “Welcome.” He greeted, and then continued working.
The 12 by 12 foot, bedroom sized brick structure, which had once been a roofless, abandoned shed, was now a secret, enhanced dwelling for the Supreme Trinity. It was complete with a flat-screen monitor on the southern wall with a small keyboard propped under it. A police scanner was built into the eastern wall next to the automatic entrance, and opposite that were three, six-foot tall glass containers standing together, within each a headless mannequin wearing their black uniforms with colored symbols at the chest. Joe was currently making repairs on these containers. In the corner next to them was an electrical generator, one that David had the ability to feed his electric power to, which is what powered the Fortress. The floor was now hardwood instead of dirt, and a couch for three sat at the northern end facing the TV monitor. A dim blue light bulb provided just enough light from the dome-like roof above.
Nick took a seat on the couch, releasing a sigh of exhaustion, while David activated the police scanner and turned on the keyboard-controlled TV monitor, which had wireless internet and a mapping program connected directly to the police scanner, allowing them a direct pinpoint location on a CGI map, indicating the origin of a specific crime. All jurisdictions were available. They called it ‘Crime-Watch.’
“How was work?” Joe asked Nick.
“Busy.” Nick answered. “Have you been here all day?”
“Yep.”
Both David and Nick stared at him for a moment. Joe paused his repairs and stared back. “What?” He asked.
“Don’t you think you spend a little too much time here?” Asked David.
Joe sighed and continued his work. “I’ve been laid-off for over three months now. Other than looking for another job, I have a lot of time on my hands, and I’ve made good use of it.”
“I agree.” Said Nick. “You’ve turned the Fortress from a shack to a mini-command center.”
“You guys helped too.” Reminded Joe.
“Yeah but you’ve done most of the work.” Added David.
“If I can, why not?”
“It’s been great.” David continued. “The Fortress is great, but you should take it easy now. You’ve done everything that can be done to make this place a perfect headquarters for us.”
“Yeah.” Agreed Nick. “You’ve been busting your ass for months.”
“Done.” Said Joe, finishing his repairs.
He stood up off the floor and pressed his finger to the blue button at the side of the glass container. The glass opened like double doors, making easy access to their uniforms. “All fixed.”
“Good.” Said Nick. “Now take a breather.”
“Relax,” Joe replied, “I’m not tired. I like working in here. It’s made our jobs as the Supreme Trinity a lot easier. Don’t worry about me. Worry about what’s happening out there.”
In recent times, the economy in Michigan has been at a low point. There have been many job losses over the past few months, money cuts, foreclosures, topped off with high gas prices. The news claims that the economical crisis could lead into a second depression, but many also say that things are looking to get better. Mixed opinions. Nobody knew what was to be. Because of the economical downfall, crime has risen to a point that its never reached before, and the Supreme Trinity were out most nights doing what they could.
Though crime has risen, so has something else. The awareness of possessors was at its peak, so many people were no longer keeping their abilities secret. Every day you’d see the gifted taking flight in the daytime sky, showing off their illuminating powers, in all parts of Michigan.
And with this rise came new teams of superheroes.
The Supreme Trinity had not only jumpstarted the increasing exposure of the possessor community, but their inspiration was the cause of these uprising vigilantes. Every now and then, the Trinity would arrive at a crime scene already subdued by unknown supreme heroes, who would vanish upon the coming of police and detectives. No heroic team, as many as there may be, had yet to make themselves as well-known as the Supreme Trinity.
