Summary

Suddenly I woke up. I found myself in a hospital. I couldn't remember who I was, or where I had come from. All I knew at that moment were the white walls surrounding me at this moment. I found a person sleeping on my bed. Who was she? What did she want with me? I couldn't tell, and I began to get drowsy. The last thing I remember before everything went black was the girl waking up and screaming for the nurse. Lucy is a 22-year-old human, or so she thinks. What she doesn't know is that she's from another dimension, and is one of the rarest kinds of creatures: The Core Souls. The most powerful race ever to be found on the face of all the dimensions combined. Why? Because they are angels in disguise. Now, there are only two left of this race, and both have been sent on a mission. But what happens when one forgets everything, and is suddenly thrust into a world she doesn't understand? What happens when she suddenly finds herself on the run from a murderer who is after her kind? Will she be able to remember and save herself from the terror that haunts her at night? Or will time fly too fast?

Prologue

“We have to make this fast. Hurry up!” a disembodied voice shouted.

I looked on as the portals grew bigger in size. Lucy and I were just getting ready to travel to Earth, where our mission would begin.

I looked to my right and saw Lucy putting on her gear.

“Hey, you ready Lucy?!” I shouted.

“Yep. Born ready!” was her reply.

I also continued to put on my gear whilst folding my wings behind me. I made a mental note to tear them off the moment I entered Earth.

Soon, the portal was ready, and I stepped into it together with Lucy.

I immediately found myself in a big house, filled to the brim with people in fancy outfits.

Hmm. They must be having a party.

My gear had changed into a black tuxedo with a royal blue tie. I began to roam around, looking for my human agent, Jack.

I found him beside the bar, happily helping himself to some vodka.

“So, horr you?” He said.

He was slurring, and I could smell the alcohol in his breath. I backed away slowly, until I was far enough from him. I guess I had to wait till another time to find out who I was now.

But for now, I had to stay as far away as possible from any other human, which was very hard to do, since I was in a party. So I tried to find the door to the backyard while being as inconspicuous as possible. Luckily, I succeeded, and soon enough I found myself sitting on a swing. I wanted to enjoy the peace for the night, but I couldn’t, because two humans were approaching the backyard.

Paranoid that they would see me, I quickly dashed behind the bushes not far away from the house. From where I was, I could see all that was going on between the two. I saw them sit on the swing, and bring their heads closer together.

I turned my head away before any session began.

Wait a minute. I can’t believe I forgot what I came here to do. I walked further away into the woods behind the house, then unfolded my wings from inside my back. I waited for them to fully unfold. When they did, I couldn’t help but marvel at the way they gleamed under the moonlight. No matter how many times I saw this, I just couldn’t get over it. Call me a touchy-feely man. Frankly, I don’t give a shit.

I left them on for a moment, before gripping the left one in my right hand, and yanking it down. The whole wing came off at that action, and it took everything I had to keep from shouting. I repeated the same thing with my other wing. I held both in my hands, and they fizzled into nothingness. Well, at least that was done, so I could get back to the house.

I checked to see if the couple was still there, and sure enough, they were. I looked around and tried to find a way to get to the party without them noticing. However, when I looked at them again, I figured I could wave my hand in front of them and they wouldn’t notice, so why not just walk across the lawn and into the house?

So that’s what I did. I walked right across them, and they didn’t notice me. Or, even if they did, they didn’t show it. I entered the door, and I instinctively went to hide in the shadows. I managed to reach where my agent was when I first checked on him without being seen, but he wasn’t there. I turned to look forward, only to find him in the middle of the crowd, telling them to do something.

“My boss says the party is over. He had an emergency meeting to attend to, so he told me to clear all the guests. I am very sorry for the inconvenience. Good night.”

As soon as the guests cleared out, I walked over to him and asked, “What do you think you’re doing?!”

“Well, I had to create a little space for you to come out of the shadows, didn’t I?” He replied, but not before smirking.

“OK, whatever. What’s done is done. Now please, can you tell me who I am already?” I asked.

“Your name is Vincent Martins. You are one of the richest businessmen in the whole of America. You own this house, and you threw this party tonight. I’ll send the rest to you in the morning, okay?”

“What’s my email address and my password, by the way?”

“You know what? Let’s just do this right now.”

We went over the rest of the details about Vincent, and very soon, it was late.

“Well, I’d better get going,” Jack said, standing up.

“Wait. So where’s the real Vincent?”

“It’s already been taken care of. Nobody will notice, okay? So get some sleep. Tomorrow’s going to be hectic,” he said, and the left.

I sighed. I really hated missions where I had to work so hard. Why couldn’t I just be undercover as a teenager again? That last mission was more fun than I had expected. Anyway, what could I do?

I got up from the couch, and headed upstairs, into my room.

My room was magnificent. There was a king-sized bed in the top middle of the room, with a giant window for a wall at the side facing the forest behind. Opposite the bed was a small couch, and right beside the couch was a door, which I guessed was the bathroom. Right beside the bed was another door, probably a walk-in closet.

I entered the door, and before me was the most luxurious bathroom I had ever seen. It was very spacious, with a floating toilet on my left, a bathtub with glass doors to my right, and a sink in between the two. There was also a mirror right above the sink.

In short, the place was beautiful. I guess this man really had a taste for luxury.

I undressed myself and filled up the tub, then entered. I found a bath bomb, shower gel, and a loofah on the rim of the tub. I put the bomb into the water, and since it was blue, it made the water blue. I stayed in there for what seemed like a good ten minutes, just reminiscing over my past missions, and the peace I was feeling.

After bathing, I dried myself, and entered the walk-in closet. I found Vincent’s boxers in no time, since everything was so organised, but then I shuddered at the thought of having to wear someone else’s boxers. It wasn’t like I hadn’t done this a million times over before, but no matter how many times I did it, I always shuddered. In the end, I had to wear them to bed, since this guy had no PJs. I mean, what kind of guy does not have PJs?

No sooner did I settle down than my mind began to wander. I thought of so many things, like how my mind was acting like Wander over Yonder with all its thinking, how I would fare through this mission, and how long it would take.

Then I thought about my partner. Lucy. I wondered how she was faring. Who and where she was. What she was doing as of now. All these thoughts led to deeper ones, like how we were the last of our race, and how we were being forced to marry each other just to reproduce and save ourselves.

But we didn’t love each other. It was still for the best, though. However, if we are the last of our race, and we have to save it, does that not mean our children will have incestuous marriages?

I cut my train of thought and went to sleep.
