Mr Twiddle’s Hat

Mrs Twiddle was rushing about, finishing work, doing the gardening and goodness knows what else. She also made Twiddle do a lot of jobs as well, and curiously, Twiddle didn’t make a mistake because Mars Twiddle wasn’t in a good mood. After some time, Mrs Twiddle said “Twiddle, you’ve been so good one more job and you can read your newspaper by the fire.”. Twiddle was so delighted at this that he was determined to get the reward at all costs. “What is the job, dear?”asked Twiddle. “The feather in your best hat has fallen out.” came Mrs Twiddle reply. Twiddle went to the hatbox under their bed. And he found the feather on the table and got the glue. He set to work but he was dreaming about taking a walk, smoking the pipe and reading the newspaper, that he absent-mindedly put glue on the rim of the hat! He finished his job and Mrs Twiddle was pleased.” I’m going out for a walk, dear.” he called out to his wife, getting out his hat and coat. He had a good time out for a walk. He met Mr. Labrador and his ten beagles, Tiny, Truffle, Sprint, Sharper, Tiny Tot, Sugar cube, Scruffy, Gem, Robby and Alpha. He petted them all and they licked him back. He went on his way and met Mrs Canary, with her five canaries, Fly, Sky, Flutter, Florence and Birdseye. He stroked them all and they chirped back at him. He went back to their house. He went in, and Mrs Twiddle said “Ah, there you are! Now take off your hat and coat.”. He took off his coat, then tugged at his hat.

It seemed to be stuck to his head. “My hat isn’t coming off!” said Twiddle in disbelief. “Let me see.” said Mrs Twiddle. But she couldn’t take it off either. Then she suddenly noticed a liquid in a crook between the hat and Twiddle’s head. The liquid was thick, white and runny. She touched it. It stuck to her finger. She suddenly realized what had happened. “ Oh, you silly man! You stuck your hat on with glue!”. “Did I?” asked Twiddle. He then remembered what he had done and turned red with embarrassment. Poor Twiddle just can’t help being silly!
