Chapter 1: Jane gets the jump rope
There once was a girl called Jane. She was a nice seven-year-old girl. She would always help old women across the street. She would always help her mother make food. Now, the 1st of September was her birthday, and her parents and grandparents who lived with her were determined to throw her a birthday party. Her parents had a very special present for her too. When she came home from school, all the lights were off. Jane wondered where her parents were. Then the lights switched on and there came a shout of happy birthday as her friends and family jumped out at her. They played pin the tail on the donkey and pass the parcel. Then they ate the cake. After that was the time for presents. Jane was always a very polite girl when it came to presents. She always said thank you and she was always very grateful for whatever she got. She unwrapped all her presents neatly, said thank you then opened the present her parents gave her. It was a jump rope. “Wow!”,she said. “Thank you for the jump rope!”. “Dear can I speak to you? Privately?” asked her father. “Sure!” replied Jane. “Jane, you must know, that jump rope has magic powers.”. “Wait, what?” asked Jane, astonished. But her father had already hurried away. Two days passed by, and Jane was still pondering the meaning of her father’s words, but without any luck.
