Chapter 1

chapter 1

Alexis awoke to the sound of knocking at her front door, as she climbed down the stairs and twisted the knob to open the door a sudden sense of realisation rushed over her face, she realised that she was about to answer the door RIGHT NOW looking as if she were mauled by a grizzly bear, she tried pulling away from the door but it was already too late, “good afternoon Ms Jenkins, you have a letter from-” the carrier stared in horror at the monstrous state of Alexis, the disgust was clear in his eyes but he quickly gathered his wits and handed Alexis the letter, “I must be going now” he said in a nervous tone as he ran off down the street, “that’s strange?” Alexis thought to herself “the letter had a royal seal on it”, she peeled off the wax and began reading in her head.

“Dear Ms Alexis Jenkins

Greetings and salutations,

you have been invited to the royal palace for a meeting

with High Mage Alexander,

when here you shall visit and collect the house left to you by

your late grandfather, Scott Jenkins.

You will meet with an escort at the palace doors,

he will take you to the office of the High Mage.

From there you will be taken to the book shop of your grandfather.

Arrive by 15:00.

My regards, Oliver Pendragon”

After reading that Alexis stood still trying to process what she had just read, money and land from her late grandfather? She didn’t even know her grandfather but she wasn’t going to give up a chance to meet the king, she slipped into her finest satin dress and put on her most beautiful shoes, the excitement was in the air and she could not stop smiling.

The royal palace of Merya is a marvel of the world, it has solid gold gateways and a roof so high the council of 3 would be impressed, such beauty and riches all belonged to the Merya family the best-liked group of people the world has ever known, they shared their wealth with the people of the world and gave special attention to those wizards and witches that needed it the most, what’s not to like?

The centre of the Meryville was always full of people from stall workers to homeless singers, the city was always bustling and that’s what the people liked, they liked the noise, the cars, the people constantly rushing about, but the only one who didn’t enjoy this was Alexis, she preferred the quiet, the cold breeze embracing a silent damp valley, but ever since her mother moved her to Meryville for education she had been miserable.

When Alexis arrived at the palace, the outer gates were opened just enough for a person to fit through, so she slowly slid through the gap, the nervousness she was lacking before was now coming to her, because now she was heading to a meeting with not only the High Mage but the Prince and King as well, she welled up the courage to take her first step into the royal property and as she walked in she could feel the noise fade away behind her leaving just a quiet courtyard full of orderly soldiers, she knew that the royals were very fond of magic but she never would have guessed that there was a spell around the palace. She trotted up the lavish marble stairs that led to the entrance of the palace when she reached the top she tried to catch her breath and almost jumped out of her skin when she noticed a man standing in front of her, but as she got a closer look at him she realised, this wasn’t just any man, this was Prince Morgan of Merya.

Prince Morgan of Merya, he’s a talking point of beauty magazines and a star of teenage girls pin-boards, Alexis had never seen him in person before and she could not stop staring at his silky black hair that paired so well with his black suit and golden epaulette, she was enchanted by his slender figure that seemed to be bursting with romance and passion, she could hardly keep a straight face when they were walking down the hall. They eventually reached the meeting room and sat down, The King sat at the head of the table with Morgan to his right, the High Mage was seated at the foot of the table and Alexis would be sitting to his right. “your majesty” Morgan said as he bowed to his father, Alexis quickly followed suit trying not to look flustered, she took he seat and the High Mage began speaking, “Welcome to the royal palace Ms Jenkins, I hope you are not nervous?" asked Alexander,“I u-um.....hi” she managed, she was still mystified by Prince Morgan. “we apologise for dragging you out here, but we cannot come with you” “you will be escorted by prince Morgan and princess Katherine, they will answer any questions you have” Alexis had no time to react, Morgan Swung his arm through hers and began walking, the utter SHOCK rushed her senses and she began to fall, the cold marble floor touched her face and her eyes began to feel heavy.
