Chapter 1

Once upon a time, in a far away land, there was a beautiful queen and her husband, the king. They lived in a marvelous castle. Every subject in the kingdom loved and respected the royal couple. The queen was expecting. The whole kingdom was so excited to see it was a boy or girl. Finally, the day came and the castle played home to a set of beautiful twins. The oldest, a boy, was named Philip. The girl was named Rose. But, little to everyone’s knowledge, halfway across the kingdom, there was another set of twins born. A girl and a boy. Annabeth and Edward. Born to a peasant couple living on a farm. But soon, before anyone knew, their lives will be turned upside down.

A thief. A masked marauder. Trouble came at night. The peasant woman and the queen woke up screaming. Their children were gone. The only thing left was a note, both saying,’You have betrayed me. You took everything from me. Now I take everything from you. Try to find me and your husbands will be gone by sun up. Your children will never be returned. -D.D.’

The queen was distraught. Her husband woke up to her screaming in the nursery. They called the guards together. ‘We have to start a search! My children, the future king is gone! Find them!’ The king angrily screamed at the captain.

‘No! We can’t! He said he will take you too! I can’t live with that!’ The queen was sobbing on the floor, her hand maids around her,’Please! I can’t lose anything more!’ The king shed a single tear. ‘We will figure something out in the morning. Keep a constant guard around the castle and in the streets. If you see anyone running, stop them,’ He looked over at his loving wife, ‘we will sleep.’ And so they went.

Rolfe had the children. Finally had them. Finally! After 3 years of waiting. He had his brothers children. He will raise them right. He will give them the lives they were promised. They were his. He was their father. Molly was their mother. They were a family. And they will live happily ever after. We will. Rolf took them to a secluded cottage in the middle of a forest. The girls will share a room and the boys will share a room. They will be happy here. As long as they never know where they came from...

15 years later

‘Rose you took my favorite dress!! Give it back!’ Annabeth was fuming. She was going out with Phillip tonight. Rose was going with Edward. Even though they lived in the house, they were not siblings. Father said he rescued them from wolves in the woods. Although he never said how or why they were in that situation in the first place… it probably wasn’t important. ‘Please give it back! I need it!’

‘NO! it’s mine and you know it, Annabeth! Just wear another one! Get over it.’ Rose couldn’t believe Annabeth accused her of taking her clothes again. She always did that. Just because she was older didn’t mean she gets to make all the rules. ‘I could just give it to her and find another one,’ Rose thought to outloud, ‘But why should I bow to her will. She’s not in charge. She can’t tell me what to do. She does that all the time! Why I oughta-’

‘Shut up, Rose,’ Phillip snapped. Rose always made a big deal out of everything. Phillip tended to avoid confrontation. He wanted things calm. So did Annabeth, for the most part anyway. That is why he liked her. She acted like the perfect princess. He loved that. Not her arrogance, just the way she is confident about everything she does. ‘Just give her the dress and find another one.’

Rose was about to protest when mother walked in and told them to quiet down. Father was sleeping. He was sick. He is always sick. Mother said when he was 18, his evil brothers did something to him. She never gave a reason why or told then what it was. It probably wasn’t important, Phillip thought. Rose thought it was. Edward did too. He was eavesdropping on the conversation outside the door. If mother ever found out he would be in big trouble. The number one rule in the house was absolutely no listening in on conversations. They were big on privacy. That was why he and Rose were rebellious. They hated rules. So they had a plan. Tonight at the dance, they were going to run. Just run away. Edward had packed all of his things, and was checking if Rose had done likewise. She probably had not. She tended to not get things done. That was ok with Edward, though. He was the same way. Their plan was to tell mother and father that they were taking some schoolwork to a friends house after the dance, so they needed their packs. ‘Surley, they would buy the story.’ Edward thought to himself. Either way, they were running. No one would stop them. He heard his mother walk toward the doorway. Edward backed up and acted like he was walking to Rose’s room.

‘What are you doing here, Son?’ Mother asked him.

‘Just seeing how Rose is. Does she have her dress on yet?’ Edward made sure to use an innocent sounding voice.

‘Yes she does. Now hurry and get dressed. You two have to leave early, don’t you?’ Edward nodded. ‘Good. Now get going. You can talk to Rose later.’

Mother walked off while Edward watched. She knew he was going to go in Rose’s room no matter what she told him. He did. Knock, knock, knock. Rose answered the door. ‘What are you doing.’ She asked, ‘You’re not supposed to be here for ten more minutes! I’m not ready!’

Edward raised both hands in surrender. ‘Woah. Ok then. I’ll leave.’

‘Whatever. I’ll come out when I’m ready Im almost done. Five more minutes.’ Twenty minutes later, she was ready.

Phillip, Annabeth, Rose, and Edward left for the dance. ‘We’ll catch up with you later,’ Edward told Peter at the fork in the road, ‘ See you later. Be safe.’ Phillip gave Edward an odd look. He never acted responsible or mature. What’s up with him. It was probably just the fact he was going on his first date. He was just nervous.

Rose and Annabeth embraced. ‘See ya, Annabeth. Sorry I took your dress. Although, it is really comfortable.’ They laughed. ‘We’ll catch up with you later.’

‘Love you, girl!’ Rose blushed. Did Annabeth know? She never said that. Ever. Like, EVER, ever. She is always void of emotion. She had to know. They were compromised. They would never get away. She would be stuck here for her whole life. ‘No. Stop, Rose,’ She thought to herself, ‘You’re just overthinking things. Annabeth’s your sister. Of course she loves you. Just stop. Don’t worry,’ Edward took her arm.

‘Are you ready?’ He asked. Looking directly into her eyes.

‘Yes.’ She answered with all knowing confidence. No hesatation, ‘Let’s go.’ And so they went.
