Chapter 1: The Betrayal
President Coin, Plutarch, Julianne, Beetee, and the surviving district twelve victors, sat around President Snow’s old meeting table. President Coin started the meeting by announcing that should act as the new interim president until the new president would be elected by the recently freed country. She promised she would stand ground and do her job through good and bad. While everyone was still shocked by her statement, nothing would compare to what was said next. While the room was as quiet as an abandoned mine, Coin said, “As the interim president, I offer the suggestion to hold a hunger games involving only the capitals children.” They discussed the matter and after much debate and the votes were counted, the majority voted for a new hunger games. She then stated that it be put into effect immediately.
The next day after the public execution of former President Snow, Coin announced that she would be the interim president until the election for the new president occurs. Then she broke the heart wrenching news to the districts. She explained that they would host a hunger games for all children who live in the capital ages twelve to eighteen that lived in the capital would have their names be put in the drawing which will occur in two weeks. The roar and wave of happiness poured through the stadium. She stated that Plutarch would make this new arena somewhere in district 13. Then she introduced Plutarch, who said, “I am very excited to have the honor of creating the next hunger games arena. To begin it, we are going to treat this one as a quarter quell, where this is going to be an all girls hunger games. Thank you.” The crowd were monkeys with bananas, cheering that it was going to be a quarter quell.
The next day after breakfast in the president's house, which they were rebuilding, Katniss was in the greenhouse enjoying the white rose garden, when peeta, as if he was a bull, bursted through the door. “Katniss you know this is wrong, all of it. This is the kind of thinking that started the uprisings against the capital and now Coin is doing exactly what we fought for, she's taking Snow’s place.” Katniss replied, “You don't know, but this is for Prim. They need to pay for what they did and for being the animals they are.” Peeta, now shouting, exclaimed, “Do you really want to put 24 girls what we had to go through? Do you not remember the chaos in that arena? You are not that kind of person!” Katniss stormed off angrily with what Peeta said.
Katniss walked straight into Coin’s office and with a stern face and said, “You have to have Snow's granddaughter in the games.” She had a tear running down her cheek as she demanded this. “I do not care how you do it, but I want revenge on Snow for killing my sister!” Coin calmly answered back, “Well Katniss, we already put that into consideration for you. That's precisely the reason why we made this a girls only Hunger games. With her being the youngest one in the arena, there is no way she will survive.” More than satisfied,
Katniss hugged Coin, walked outside, and sat in the library. While thinking about the games, Peeta came in and said “Snow didn't kill your sister.”
