Fanfiction Hunger Games

Chapter 1

“Wake up Gale, today is the reaping.” Gale was woken up by Katniss, Prim, and her mother.

Gale grimaced as soon as he heard the word reaping. The tension among District 12 is distinct and many families are in distraught. It is now early daybreak and most people quickly cleaned up and hurriedly prepared for the Capitol to arrive. Most people however in the District enjoy cleaning. All of a sudden, monstrous vehicles rolled up at the gates of District 12. Guards immediately jumped out to appear on the scene. Screaming and crying sounds are heard in the distance from many homes miles away. Eventually the Capitol forces rounded up everybody. Katniss and prim headed up to the finger prick area before entering the town square. Katniss glanced to her left and spots out Peeta in the crowd. Peeta looked over and gave Katniss a huge grin and motioned her to stand by him during the announcements. After Katniss passed the finger prick station she made her way over to be with Peeta. Guards angrily ran through the crowd and separated them.

Katniss struggled and pleaded to the man “please let me stand by him, please, I am begging you!” Peeta watched as she is lifted away and was taken to the opposite side of the square. About 10 minutes later Gale arrived late to the gathering and is the last one to go through the gates. Gale almost seems like he likes arriving late because he seems to be late to everything. Music played in the background and is recognized quickly as the sounds of the Capitol. Effie Trinket happily strutted out on the stage to begin the process. She was dressed like a circus clown.

While Katniss waited for the names to be called she repeated in her head, “The games are evil. The capitol is evil.”

Holding the microphone in one hand and the bowl of names another she selected the first name. “Katniss Everdeen!”

Katniss and Prim made eye contact and sprinted over to be with one other possibly for the last time. Tears have worked their way down both faces expressing the love they have for each other.

Taking no time Effie reached down and chose another name. “Peeta Mellark!”

Peeta stayed strong and realized he must stay strong for Katniss and his family.

Swiftly Gale rushed into the crowd and screamed “I volunteer, I volunteer as tribute!” Katniss was shocked. She gaped at Gale for what seemed like hours.

After gale volunteered all he could think was, “I will protect Katniss. I will not let her die. I will save her.”

Katniss and Gale had this moment of affection and at that moment it seemed as if a bond of love was created. After the announcement of both names Effie proceeded with both tributes to the left of the stage to exit District 12 with the Capitol’s entourage. On the way to the Capitol Effie created small talk to take the games off their minds. Three days after arriving at the capitol the games will begin the following day. Opening ceremonies began and Gale and Katniss was presented to be in love in order for support from sponsors during the game. Later that night the tributes feasted with Haymitch because this could be their last meal together or possibly the last in their lifetime. The next morning both tributes awaken abruptly due to the dreams about the horrid Hunger Games. They were scared because they knew their life was in great jeopardy. They knew the games were a reality show for the capitol to enjoy and watch. The tributes were the contestants. Haymitch handed out tips for Gale and Katniss to survive. The tributes gathered around the shiny and gold Cornucopia and the loud boom throughout the stadium marks the start of the games. The arena was a death trap. The other tributes were animals. Rue from district 11, Cato from district 2, and Foxface from district 5 bolt into the woods ahead. They were as fast as lightning. Sprinting into opposite directions, Gale and Katniss split up. Cato and Foxface seemed to be creating an ally along the river bank during the first hour into the games. Cato and Foxface appeared very belligerent.

Rue wandered by herself lonely and afraid and immediately whispered to Gale “Psssh Gale protect me please.”

Gale has to make a tough decision in choosing the poor little girl, Rue or his soulmate, Katniss. However on the other side, Katniss at this point is looking to survive and hoping to create an alliance that would allow her to do so. So far during the games, Rue and Gale have created an alliance and Cato and Foxface have also created an alliance. Katniss is being pulled in both directions and has no idea who to choose. Who will Katniss choose?

Chapter 2

Gale’s voice is recognized in the area around Katniss and he mumbled

“Katniss over here, we need your expertise to help us survive.”

After hearing this plea for help Katniss considered the offer and ultimately accepted the alliance. Cato and Foxface were noticeably the stronger tributes. They were Katniss, Peeta, and Rue’s biggest adversary. The sponsors sent them a device that could track the other tributes location. Gale, Rue and now Katniss are in hiding and have been camping out the whole games so far. Cato and Foxface want action and started heading over to the location that the tracker put out. Looking carefully from across the way, Katniss spotted out Cato crouched along pathway. Cato quickly made his way through the brush scattered in the rough terrain. Cato was sneaky and manipulative. Gale made a move and decided to attack Foxface with his sword. Foxface was lost in the thick brush and was an easy elimination. Katniss overlooked the motion just to make sure nothing went wrong. To protect her safely Rue made her way swiftly up the massive Oak tree in about 5 seconds. Apparently Rue was taught at a young age to master tree climbing. Gale executed the killing of Foxface but the process was gruesome and Foxface was dead in the matter of seconds. Cato realized the odds of survival of a three vs. one situation. Cato jerked his head in the direction of Katniss and Rue and noticed them in the tree. He launched a spear directly and Rue and she plummeted down the tree. Katniss weaped and weaped for days due to the loss of her best friend, Rue. Katniss had formed a great love for Rue. To know Rue was to have loved Rue. Rue was buried in her grave. Gale stepped in and moved Katniss away from the grave of Rue and motioned that they must escape and hide from Cato. The death of the beloved Rue greatly impacted Katniss during the moment the sword struck her. Gale assumed authority of the remaining alliance and suggested the movement to the Cornucopia. Arriving at the Cornucopia Gale and Katniss arranged their items and set up camp here. Movements and crunching of leaves were heard by Katniss around camp. She leaped into the air and punished Cato for his decision against Rue. The arrow was shot with great accuracy and speed that pierced right through Cato’s heart. Katniss and Gale were the only remaining tributes in the game.

A voice was heard from the sky and stated from the game maker “we have modified the games and there is only one victor this year!”

Katniss and Gale realized what this meant and analyzed each others emotions. Neither one of them wanted to kill the other so they searched for an alternative option. Gale noticed Nightlock berries along the edge of the woods. Both decided that this would be the ultimate solution.

Gale and Katniss held the berries in their hands and the game maker interrupted and voiced “the two victors of the 74 Annual Hunger Games are Gale Hawthorne and Katniss Everdeen!”

At that very moment Gale swallowed the Nightlock and fell down instantly at the feet of Katniss. Katniss begged for help from the game maker and capital assistance rushed into the games and lifted Gale into the air onto a Helicopter. The very next day Katniss woke up in the hospital to the smile of Gale. Gale rushed over to Katniss and gave her a hug. Five years later, Gale and Katniss are officially husband and wife. They have two kids named Annie and Adam. Katniss and Gale live happily ever after and raise their kids to become leaders in District 12.
