Section 1 The Plan
The boys decided to have a go.
The desert-like expanse of the field, bordered by two ponds and hills with lush green coating was too much for them.
For long, two weeks to be exact- and that is indeed long- they eyed on the field. After the toil and joy- depending on the person- for Suraj it was the former- in the newfound job at Mumbai as trainees, they were driven by a semi-lavish bus to the company's rented apartments- each having two huge rooms with attached bathroom for each, and a common kitchen, with two-in-one gas-cookers and a refrigerator, with people to clean the floors.
On one side was a beautiful road with costly cars plying, and one the other side was this field.
But why not green? Coming from one of the most fertile lands in the world- Bengal- it was not that Suraj didn't gave a thought about it. Not a square inch land in his mother state remains barren, if left unattended.
Suraj and other folks knew they will be there for a few months- six months to be exact- as was told to them by the superiors- but what can stop them from playing a bit of cricket? They didn't even found the need to ask for permission.
They quickly decided among themselves, Prasanna being their leader, that they would make contributions to purchase three wickets and a bat. Not all, but most of them.
Things were arranged, and the target was the next Sunday. They had two holidays in a week.
