SOCIAL MEDIA as new News Managers

If you are waiting for your favorite news show or your newspapers to be delivered at your doorstep every morning just to get fresh and breaking news or gossip in the world of showbiz, well there’s no need to wait no more! Nowadays the source of information can be gathered by our fingertips everywhere, anywhere with the use of social media.

Social media has been the most source of news by everyone. According to an article online, with more than 2.4 billion internet users, nearly 64.5 percent receive breaking news from Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flashat, Snapchat and Instagram instead of traditional media. Many internet users are seeing news on their social media accounts when they are browsing everytime. Others will say that before seeing the news on TV, hearing it from radio stations and reading it on newspapers, they are no longer surprised because they have already read it online or shared an update on a group message. However, in the latest survey, there are very few social media users who will just read the whole article. They just read it for 10 to 15 seconds or just the headline of it.

Since the information is very fast approaching online, there is no denying that there is a lot of news that are unverified. With the power of our friends, websites and other people with the use of social media, fake news can spread instantly or even in just a minute. Other people can control what we see and what we read online by multiple times sharing any contents until they reach our newsfeed.

Is Social Media now good or bad when it comes to effective and efficient ways to receive news or should we still stick to traditional media like before? Anyways, whatever happens, news stories today will be easily forgotten tomorrow when something arises. It is not how fast and instant we can gather news but rather sources are verified and genuine.

Evtida: It was a very sweet story, but it felt rushed. It didn't really convey the emotions. For example, when the girl was kidnapped, instead of panicking, going crazy, and causing a scene, giving in felt strange... His exaggerated relationship with his gay friend was also odd in my opinion.

Heika van Walderveen: I had to get used to the style. It’s a lot of switching and getting back into the story of the characters. Also the different timelines were a bit confusing in the beginning. But once you’re used to it, it’s really quite original. The plot is good, but it’s only book 1 (out of 3), but so far so good...
