Ignorance

Ignorance
Cold winds on a fall morning
blowing winds against the steel vehicle
the beat up, baby blue minivan
protecting all inside
Within
a small, frail fifth-grader
ecstatic to begin her day at school
A parked car in a ten-year-old parking lot
eroded by the rubber tires
cracks in the cement
yellow paint lines faded
Still holding the feeling of excitement
the girl readied her backpack
and began to depart
Words escaped her mother’s mouth
It should’ve pained her
but only brought confusion to heart
she was unable to comprehend the situation
The girl showed feelings of sadness
but they were never truly in attendance
Her age limited her ability to fathom
Years passed
and she felt the pain
The pain that failed to exist
years before
She yearned to hear his goofy laugh
She wished to see
his peach fuzz head
She did not show enough
appreciation
When he was on the earth
She learned her lesson
and now cherishes all
who deserve to be cherished
