Florence

“Izzy, I thought you were going to text me back,” Lexi, a sweet girl with brown curly hair and glasses asks.

I smile and reply with a more sultry voice than usual, “Sorry, sweetheart. We aren’t dating, you know that.”

Brian, my snarky heterosexual, snickers. I elbow his skinny self right in the ribs. “Better get to class, cutie. You don’t want to be late, “ I sigh. There’s a moment of complete and dead silence between me and the other girl before she huffs and storms out of the classroom. Brian bursts into laughter, almost falling out of his seat. I roll my eyes at Brian’s red skinny jeans that clash with Brian’s pink Fall Out Boy shirt that he claims is “for real men only” and his shaggy red hair that clashes with the rest of him.

“I just don’t understand why all of these girls throw themselves at you, Iz. You’d think they’d know better by now,” he chuckles, his bright green eyes flashing mischievously.

“You’re just jealous,” I sigh. I run my my fingers through my short, spiky black hair and pull out my compact mirror as Brian babbles. My light grey eyes are accented by my fairly tan skin and thin line of black eyeliner, the only makeup I need because of my long lashes and flawless complexion.

“-not to mention your badass, red flannel and layering your clothes and your cut up black jeans and your dingy converse. You’re such a typical-” I shush Brian mid rant as the bell rings and a very cute, flustered blonde stumbles into study hall, a schedule firmly in hand.

Mr. Reams, our very plain teacher, drones, “We have a new student. Please introduce yourself to your new classmates Ms. Heart.”

The adorable blonde locks her chocolate brown eyes with mine and clear as a bell says, “Hi, my name is Florence, and it’s very nice to meet you all.”

I lean back in my chair, my arms folded across my chest, as the cute blonde strides down the aisle. She’s obviously as confident as I am, which is actually a little frustrating. Brian leans over and whispers, “STRAIGHT,” right into my ear. I swat him away like an annoying fly, turning around in my seat as to not seem creepy. The blonde smiles a little, obviously hearing Brian in all of his cockblocking glory.

After study hall, I walk up to the adorably small blonde who is looking over her schedule. I reach for the schedule in an attempt at chivalry, but she whips it away from me before I can even look at it. “Do I know you?” the blonde snaps, her brown eyes locking with mine.

“I was just trying to help…” I murmur, a little offended.

“I’m fine, thanks,” she says, smiling, still not breaking eye contact.

“Oh c’mon. I just wanted to walk you to your next class, cutie,” I say, smirking and making another grab for her schedule.

“Quit being such a dudebro,” the girl says as she folds her schedule neatly, tucking it into her messenger bag. “Also, I’m not your cutie. I’m a Florence,” she mumbles as she strides off down the hallway, leaving me at a loss.

As fate would have it, Florence and I have four out of five classes together. She hates all of my pet names and rebukes all of my attempts to flirt with her. I’ve gone from stud to mud in one day, and my head reels on the way home. No one has ever made me work like this before.

The month passes, and I leave the blonde alone, as no means no.

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters. I know it sounds critical, but I have the same problem and I hate it. Overall, it was one of the best stories I've read on here so far. I liked it better than those M...
