Falling
Chapter 1~ Falling
Regina~
“I love you Henry.” I watched that ragged old bug drive over the town line, carrying away my only hope; my only happiness. I could feel the fog of the curse surrounding me, tickling my skin, but I never looked away from the car that held my son. He was gone now, and every person living in Storybrook was being pulled back into the land where they truly belonged. Tears slipped down my cheeks as I felt my body leaving the ground and following the path of magic leading everyone home. But it wasn’t my home, it could never be my home, because the only place that ever felt like home was when Henry was wrapped in my arms. And now he was gone, and I would never have a home again. My heart throbbed in my chest, the pain of loosing Henry creating an intense ach.
Magic swirled through the air, consuming every resident, and pulled us all back to the Enchanted Forest, but I was the one who had to guide the magic. I had to tell it where to go, where to take all of theses people who hated me. I had to keep them safe, because if I didn’t Henry would never forgive me. It didn’t matter that I would never see my son again, because even imagining what he would say, what he would think of me if I didn’t take care of them, it broke my heart. So I did. I did take care of them, no matter how much they hated me. I guided them to the safest place I could think of. Even if I hadn’t been to my castle in thirty years I knew they would be safe there.
Magic flowed from my body in great rushes, pulling my strength along with it. I felt my eyes drooping and the strong desire to sleep overwhelmed me, but I refused to allow it to take over me. I had to keep them safe, for Henry. I had to make him proud one last time. The longer I fought the more the magic pulled on my energy. I forced my eyes to stay open, just until they were safe, then they could close. I heard a scream and I looked around me, but I was alone, there was no one else. And that’s when I realized that it was I who was screaming. Pain consumed my body, filling my lungs with every breath I took, filling my veins with every beat of my heart. Another scream erupted from my mouth and I felt myself loosing control. I was so close. They were almost safe.
“I promise Henry, I will keep them safe.” The moment the last pair of feet touched the ground my magic stopped flowing from my body. The immediate loss of energy sent a shock through my entire frame, and my eyes slammed shut. I could feel my body falling, but it didn’t register in my mind that I was going to hit the ground, not until it was too late. Branches grabbed greedily at my clothes and dug their thin fingers into my skin. My head struck a limb, leaving my vision blurred. Then my downward decent stopped. My body slammed into the unforgiving forest floor, stealing the breath from my lungs. I heard several cracks inside my body, and as I gasped for air to refill my lungs I knew I had broken several ribs. Blood pumped furiously through my veins as I lay unmoving on the forest floor. My vision blurred more, and spots danced in front of my eyes. My head became fogged and the last thought that passed through my mind was a prayer. A prayer that death would find me, and take me into his home. I prayed for him to welcome me with open arms, leaving this world of misery behind. Death was all I wanted now; it was all that awaited me.
