"The following comments are my opinion. Others may think different. Why the prologue? A prologue in a novel is backstory and you can place the information anywhere you want. You begin with IT WAS- If you can change this it will read much better. You use Ran down twice in succession. You use her name (Cynthia) all the time. As she is the only character on the page you can use she/her. With respect to any novel you purchase in a book store the first five lines are the most important. This will determine in many cases if you buy the book or return it to the shelf. I'm intrigued by this opening but it does need a good edit to tighten the flow. I wish you well with this."
