Prologue
I slowly sip on the last of my 3rd vodka....ok 4th. Another failed date with someone I didn’t even particularly like. However I liked it a lot less than my visits home where my family would ask;
“What’s wrong with you? When will you settle down? We want grandkids! Your nephews need cousins!”
So I decided to give laptop guy a chance. Laptop guy is what Kate called him as this was his “in”, my dating life had become somewhat of a comedy show to her and she enjoyed giving my dates amusing descriptive names. Laptop guy was dubbed as such from his knight in shining armour approach in the local coffee shop. He overheard my ranting regarding my severe lack of technical knowledge and offered to assist the damsel in distress, sure enough he fixed my laptop and asked for my number. We exchanged contacts and arranged to meet at the new vodka bar for drinks. He wasn completely unfortunate looking and seemed kind, no wedding ring and potentially useful to have around.
After a few flirty texts I decided he could be just what I needed to take my mind off Him. Sweet, smart and uncomplicated.....what could go wrong?!
Here I am sat at the bar, dressed in an obvious “first date dress” twirling my drink with my straw an immediate telling sign I’d been stood up. I decided I needed a laugh so I call Kate, no doubt she’ll have plenty to say about laptop guy.
M: Hey
K: Hey how’s laptop guy
M: No show
K: ugh
M: Box wine and Pizza??
K: you had me at hey!!
I knock back my drink chalking my “date” up to experience and make my way to the door to hail a cab. Making my way through the crowd, I recognise that scent, it’s intoxicating, almost spell bound I look around for the source, and there he is, piercing blue eyes locked on mine..... I can’t do this..... not again
