Chapter 1: Two-Timing Without A Care

I immediately got up from my bed as my clock struck eight O’Clock and my alarm’s noise blared in my ears. I turned towards the clock and shut off the alarm as I heaved myself off of my bed and directed my body to the bathroom.

I lazily brushed my teeth and hair, still feeling sleepy as my eyes started to close slowly before I reluctantly opened them again. I walked out of the bathroom, not before changing into a blue floral dress and black tights, as I walked down the stairs to enter the kitchen.

The kitchen was bright from the lights and was filled with a mouth-watering scent of freshly made waffles. I proceeded to sit down in the chair as my mom gave me two waffles which were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I drizzled some syrup and tossed some butter pieces on top of them, earning a quite piercing gaze from mother.

“Honey...,” she said, stretching it out to show I had done something wrong.

“Yes...,” I replied back, trying to muster up the most innocent voice I could in my sleepy state.

“Aren’t the butter and syrup toppings of the waffle?”

“Uh...yes.”

“So why do I see more toppings than the actual dish,” she asked in a sweet you-better-have-a-good-explanation tone.

“Uh...my hand slipped?” I glanced towards her to see if that was an acceptable explanation. From the look on her face, it wasn’t.

“Honey, I’ll let you off because today is a special day. But I’m hoping that you treat toppings as toppings. Otherwise, you might gain weight and we’d have to start the special diet again, right?”

“Okay,” I said as I laughed nervously. Anything but the special diet, I thought. But what’s so special about today? Well, at least she let me off. Better not make her realize that I don’t know what’s so special today.

“After you finish, get ready for school. The bus is coming in 10 minutes.”

“Okay, I will.” I ate my breakfast at a fast pace, trying to finish so that I’d have enough time to grab my bag, shoes and socks. Right when I finished, I rushed to grab my bag, throwing my lunch in there as I pulled on my socks and shoes.

“Bye, mom! I’m going to school now.”

“Bye, honey! Have fun at school.”

“I will,” I replied as I dashed towards the bus that was stopping in front of my house. I got on and sat down on an empty spot. Have fun at school? Maybe that was a hint to why today was special! Oh, but she kind-of says that everyday...

My thoughts were brought to an abrupt stop as the school came into view. I got off the bus as I said my goodbye to the bus driver. I entered the front door and headed straight to my first period class.

The first two periods went by in a blink of an eye as it had become lunch time. I went into the cafeteria, my lunch bag with me as I searched for my friend. I found her in the corner of the room as I started to walk towards her direction.

Seeing as she did not notice me, I snuck up behind her and scared her. She let out a small scream as she didn’t want to attract the attention of the other people in the cafeteria.

“Dude, you scared me to death!”

“Well, you look alive to me. So alive that it looks like you’d kill me right this moment,” I said while laughing and taking a seat across from her.

“Not funny.”

“It was for me, but I guess you can’t say the same.” She looked as if she would actually kill me. “Hey, I’m just kidding. And what were you looking at on your phone.”

“Nothing,” she said as she attempted to hide it away from me. She had done the same thing when I had scared her.

“Uh-huh,” I said not believing her one bit. “If it’s nothing, then it wouldn’t be a problem if I saw it, right?”

“Y-yeah. It wouldn’t.”

“So, give-” I was cut off by her.

“But, you wouldn’t want to invade my privacy, right?”

“Since when did you start to care about privacy around me?” I quirked up my eyebrow at her suspiciously.

“Since now.”

“Now?”

“Yeah.”

“Because you don’t want me to know you’ve been looking at pictures of boys.”

“Yeah--wait, what?” She turned red as she realized that I had already seen what she was trying to hide so desperately. “You knew?”

“Yeah, I did sneak up on you.”

“Then why did you act like you didn’t know?”

“I wanted to see how you’d react. I guess I’m not trustworthy enough for you to tell me,” I say as I put my hand on my heart, pretending as if I was hurt.

“And this is why I didn’t want to tell you,” she said gesturing to my exaggerated acting. “Because you would overreact and start teasing me.”

“Now, now. When did I ever do that?” She looked at me as if I had gone insane.

“What do you mean when? Did you forget about grade 3? Oh, what about grade 7?” She said a little enraged. I mean, how can I resist? Teasing her was so much fun!

“So, who’s the lucky guy? Is he in our class?” I asked, as I was excited to play cupid.

“You mean guys.”

“What?”

“Yeah, guys. Not a guy. As in, more than one,” she said, trying to explain in the most driest tone I had heard from her.

“Um, I know that you can have multiple crushes, but there’s no way I’m going to hook you up with multiple guys. Two-timing is bad!”

“What are you talking about? What ‘two-timing’?”

“Wait, don’t tell me it’s more than two guys,” I asked a little horrified.

“Yeah, there are seven guys,” she said nonchalantly.

“What! You want to Seven-time?”
