Alexa
My name is Alexa Gavins. I am 24 years old, and stand at 5 foot 7 (not too tall, but not too short). I have wildly curly hair, almost down to my hips. I may be on the chubby side, but I don’t care.
I’ve never had a boyfriend, and I don’t plan to look for one, I have Sam. He’s my best friend since 1st grade and the only friend I need. I just want to live a quiet, uneventful life, get through school and graduate. Maybe one day I’ll find a boyfriend, get married, and have a family for myself.
But that’s far in the future. Right now, I’m on the last week of my final semester at school, and so close to graduating. Literally days away! Finally.
It’s Friday, and I just turned in my final assignments, so all I have to do now is wait for the final grade to be posted and I am done. My diploma will be mailed to my house the same day as the ceremony.
Sam is graduating at the same time as me. I checked with him earlier, and he was submitting his final assignments too. Since we’re both finished, I asked if he would like to go out for sushi. Sam and I both love sushi, so it was an obvious yes. He’ll be picking me up in 15 minutes.
I got ready in a hurry. I decided to wear jeans and a t-shirt. I threw on the oversized hoodie that I stole from Sam when we were in high school. He’ll never get it back, hehe. I styled my hair in a messy bun then jumped when I heard a car honk.
I peaked out my window and saw Sam’s car in my driveway. I waved down at him then grabbed my bag from my bed. I ran out of my room and raced down the stairs and out the door to his car. I remembered the front door and ran back to lock it before sprinting the last few feet to his car.
I greeted Sam as I jumped into the passenger seat and buckled up. “I am so ready for Sushi!” I did a little dance in my seat to express my excitement. “Of course, I’m also happy that we are finally done with school.”
Sam laughed and pulled out of the driveway. “I swear you’ll turn into a fish one day,” he said as he drove towards the sushi restaurant. We continued bantering, our conversation flowing like usual. We’ve always gotten along really well, and it’s never boring.
Halfway to the restaurant, Sam suddenly asked. “Do you have time this weekend?” I looked at him and saw him peak at me from the corner of his eye. “Let’s take a trip to commemorate our graduation.”
I smiled, that’s a great idea. “Of course, I would love to! What did you have in mind?” I could feel my excitement bubbling.
“Well, I rented a cabin near a lake in the woods and thought we could have a nice relaxing camping trip,” Sam said.
He knows how much I love quiet places, and this sounded perfect. I exploded with happiness and excitement.
“I love it! I can’t wait, this will be so much fun! Are we leaving tomorrow?” I asked as I practically hopped in my seat, unable to contain myself.
“Yeah. I’ll pick you up in the morning at 10. Then we can head down to the cabin, it’s only an hour away,” Sam said with a smirk.
Sometimes I forget how handsome he is. We’ve always been together, he makes me feel so comfortable. I really enjoy our times together, I don’t want him to ever leave me. Together forever.
“Great! I’ll pack everything I need tonight.” As I finished saying this, we pull into the sushi restaurant’s parking lot. “We’re here!! YAY!” Before Sam could turn off the car, I’m out and running to the restaurant’s door.
Sam smiled at me as he watched me run from the car. He followed, after locking his car. I stood impatiently at the door, waiting for him. We walked in together and sat at our usual table. The owners, Kana and Ren, came to take our order, and we chatted for a bit. We ordered four platters of sushi and talked while we waited for the food. When the food arrived, we didn’t hesitate and stuffed our faces.
This restaurant is the best in town. Sam and I discovered it in 10th grade when we took an after school joy ride in his car. It’s a mom and pop restaurant, and we couldn’t resist trying it out. Even back then, we loved sushi. When we walked into this cozy little restaurant, we fell in love. We’ve had everything on the menu, at least once. The owners loved us, and we quickly became regulars.
Eight years later and we still come here regularly.
We talked for a couple hours, chatting with each other and the owners. The owners often give us extra food for free. They don’t have children, so they thought of us as their own. It was sweet. Finally, after stuffing our faces with sushi, we were full and said our goodbyes to the owners.
We walked outside and got in his car with a sigh. We looked at each other and laughed, I knew we’d be falling into a food coma soon. Sam lives five minutes away, and we decided it was a good idea to head to his house for a nap before he takes me home.
When we got to Sam's house, he led me to his room, and we plopped down on his bed. We’ve been close for so long that it wasn’t unusual for us to share a bed. In fact, it was normal. Every sleepover we have had, every catnap we took, we slept next to each other. It was the most comfortable place, laying next to him. Especially after high school, when he grew taller than me and bulked up a bit. Laying next to Sam, I looked at him and smiled. How did I find such a good guy?
Soon, I fell asleep, using his chest and arm as a pillow. He was just so warm that I couldn’t resist.
Sweet darkness consumed me.
