Chapter 1
Abigail could feel the sweat dripping down her face. She was with her partner Chase in their new assignment, to stop a robbery. "Chase, take a hard left. Calling back up," she says, keeping a close eye on the car to not lose it. They were on their tails, almost catching up to the thieves. Suddenly, crash! The thieves’s car flipped over and landed on a curb of a park.
“L.A.P.D! Alright put your hands in the air!” The thieves swiftly got behind their car, except for one, who was unconscious. The two thieves started to shoot officers Abigail and Chase. The two officers got behind their car and called for backup. “We need backup. We’re at Pershing Square! Call in patrol!“, exclaimed Abigial as she called out on the radio.
They started shooting again. It was a long repetition of bullets flying through the air. Suddenly, two more cop cars came from behind and said,” Don’t move! We have you surrounded! The two of them dropped their guns, but the one who was unconscious, raised his gun at Chase to attempt to shoot him. Abigail startled, shot the thief in the chest. The thief dropped his gun and fell to the ground. She breathed heavily and turned to Chase. “I-is he dead?”
He inspected the thief and said, “Yep, he sure is! Good aiming!” Abigail started to hurl on the street. “Chase rushed to her and said, ″Woah, Abigail! Easy! I know it’s your first time killing a thief, but you did pretty good!” “I should’ve used my taser…”, said Abigail sickeningly. Chase looked around an said,"Wow, good thing you called backup just in time. It looks like the thieves have been apprehended already". Abigail cleaned her mouth and said, “It looks like they have everything under control. Let’s go to the station…. We have paperwork to do.”
Abigail and Chase got in the car and drove off. Chase looked at Abigail and chuckled,“Okay, Abigail, it’s been 4 years since we’ve been working at this job. And yet, this is your 1st time you’ve actually used your gun?” “Of course it is! I’ve only used my taser and self defense for these kind of situations. I don’t like using firearms,” said Abigail.
“Alright, I’ll respect that, but sometimes it’s dangerous when your life is on line. The chief has told you many times to have it for safety precautions. He was even about to fire you for not having it. It’s a good thing you had it tonight, said Chase as he stretched his arms in exhaustion.” “*Sigh*, yeah, yeah, I know. I’ll keep that in mind. In the meantime, the chief told us that he needed us asap. All he said was a new assignment given to us, taken place in some type of high school,“I respond.
“Huh, sounds interesting, well then let me just rest off a bit,” he says as he tips his hat on his face. I rolled my eyes, and said, “Alright, but you’re in charge of the paperwork once we get there.” I turned to him, but he already dozed off. I went back to concentrating on driving and I couldn’t stop thinking about what our new assignment was about that had to do with a school.
Well, my high school life just brought awful memories of when I actually used to attend. I was never a popular girl or anything, so I made sure it didn’t get to me. Those mean girls would always tell me, “You’ll always be alone because you’re clothes are ugly and you’re such a nerd.” But I didn’t care.
My top priority was to study and no distractions. Well, let’s just start with simple information. My name is Abigail, 25 years old and I am a police officer. This whole thing happened when I decided to become a police officer because my father was one, but sadly, he died of a heart attack. He was a great leader and a role model to me. So I decided to go into law enforcement and be an officer. After several years, I moved on with my life and bought a home. I took my sister with me since she complained to me about it. And my mother still lives in the house where we were raised.
My partner, Chase, 26 years old, he is my partner in crime and my best friend. I met him on his first day first day at work when he accidentally spilled hot coffee on my uniform. I was furious and I wanted to start a fight with him, but I guess the chief heard and we were forced to work together and become partners. But after that, our friendship went smoothly.
I look up at the mirror and park the police car infront of the station. I turned to Chase and wake him. “Psst, Chase, wake up...Chase. CHASE THEY HAVE PANCAKES!” He jolts up looking around,”PANCAKES?! NO WAY! WHERE?” I started laughing and he pouted, Hey, don’t play with me like that… I love pancakes. I will eat you one day, pancakes…”
I gave him the stink eye and say, “ Dude, if you keep obsessing over pancakes, then you’ll look like a balloon. Come on we’re here.” We were called up by our boss Connor. Me and Chase went up to the office to discuss of the case in Summer Cove. “There were many filed reports of strange activity in Summer Cove High school. Since the school is denying in being involved, we’ll do things differently. Based on the files, there has been disappearing students in the high school. Mostly, there has also been reports of drug smuggling, loitering, and trespassing. We need both of you to find out what’s going on and report back here immediately,” commands Connor.
“Roger that, boss. You won't be dissapointed,” I say as I head out the door, but he stops me. “But you haven't heard everything just yet. You're not getting close to that school, with your officer uniforms. You need to go undercover."
