The Masochistic Pumpkin

It penetrates my flesh, I lust for it

To reach the sweet darkness inside

My body. It is stabbing and sliding

In and out of me until it comes

Full circle around my scalp.

Its retreat leaves me longing,

I’m desperate to finally be

Beautiful, if only for tonight.

One night: that’s all I ask.

Keep pushing and pulling, I will not

Cry when painted fingernails gouge

My eyes: first left, then right. Gaze

Into me and want for more.

I’m nearly beautiful as you

deliberate your next artful cut.

Slide in it and draw it slow, sweet

Knife; I crave your loving

Carve this Halloween night.
