The Unseen Ballerina
I stood in the middle of the dark ballroom, slowly dragging my feet around in circles replaying the melodic music I heard just hours before. The soft strings of the violin and cello playing a calm enticing rhythm that could be interpreted as sad even.
Slowly wrapping my arms around my waist and holding my hand to my left so the ghost of my imagination could effortlessly twirl me around the center circle.
The soft moonlight cast long shadows on the floor like a puppet show except I was missing a puppet to complete the scene. My hair swirled and twirled with each spin and with each dip my head made fully encasing myself in the music. My apron flowing the air around me making my shadows look less sad and more of a performance.
My head lolled back and forth with the music taking parts of my soul and holding them hostage. It was though I never wanted to free myself from such a beautiful piece of art.
I swept myself across the dance floor replaying the music speeding up slowing down Intune with the rhythm until I couldn’t remember it anymore. I slowly sank to the floor gasping for air trembling from an indescribable feeling that felt like everything but nothing in the same instant. It felt the most like relief and anger.
Yet I had nothing to be angry about except not dancing outside of the grand ballroom doors when I first heard the captivating melody.
