The Wynchwood-Alverii Pack

The Wynchwood-Alverii Pack as the name suggests, is the product of two packs merging. Commanding the province of Kamyra in the country of Scylesia the pack was a formidable one.

Primarily founded by werewolves, the original packs in terms of species that inhabited the area, were very diverse. The Wynchwoods were a hardy, earth warrior pack hardened by the mountainous and lush green forests that covered their lands. Traditionally, they were a hunter community, living off the land and had also made a name for themselves from mining. They have a natural affinity to the earth.

Conversely, the Alverii were a water warrior clan that siphoned their powers from the valleys, rivers and the sea. The Alverii were traditionally farmers and fishermen, living off the land and trading these goods with materials from the Wynchwoods. Both prayed to different and similar gods and goddesses for bounty and strength and this spiritual connection the packs held made them particularly blessed. Alverii are drawn towards bodies of water; it is in their blood.

For centuries, the Moon Goddess thought it fit to pair members from both packs up and this resulted in a happy union of couples and the packs. Other deities would look down at the unions with deep admiration as they would see the very best values in their creations. Were and non-were folk lived together in harmony and learnt that together they could achieve so much. Pack members that were non-were adapted to pack life and understood the benefits of it. Witches, warlocks, fae, humans and others from abroad were safe from discrimination. Eventually, the packs agreed that as they were neighbours and found most of their mates in each other’s packs, since they shared values, resources, and so much more, that they should merge and become one, even stronger pack.

The resulting Wynchwood-Alverii Pack was well-known and over the years, the pack grew more and more prosperous. The main cities of Wynver and Alwood were founded years later which became the trading and business hubs for the commerce.

A great number of years have passed and since then communities have evolved, times have changed but not all things change. Wherever there are riches, there is poverty; wherever there is good, there is bad; wherever there is calm, there also approaches a storm.......

“Kiona! I swear to the Moon Goddess if you don’t come back right now I will have no choice but to report this to the Alpha and Luna!” came a reprimand.

Nonna Maisie was at the end of her tether, she had tended to many children over the years in the Alpha’s family, even the Alpha himself, in fact, but none had been quite so unruly as the youngest member of the family Kiona.

Kiona was the Alpha’s daughter. At 5 years old, standing at just over four feet tall, she was very tall for her age. Her tanned skin, silver hair and amethyst coloured eyes gave her the perfect mischievous look. Kiona had a penchant for finding trouble, even when she didn’t want to and it seemed like today was going to be no different. Her tangled hair was littered with leaves and twigs, her face rosy red with colour and caked with mud like the rest of her school uniform which hung off her slender frame. One could barely make out the blue and white stripes on her dress as it all seemed to fade into brown and green. She looked like she had been dragged through a hedge backwards and then thrown into a sty. Oh and the smell...!

As Nonna’s face screwed up in disgust, it was clear her eyes and nostrils were offended by the sight that was standing and smelling before her. Kiona obediently stood before her Nonna as she didn’t want her mother and father to see her like this and she didn’t want to get into trouble for the second time today. The Alpha blood in her was screaming for rebellion but the inner child in her realised she needed to reign it in before she gets punished.

“Sorry Nonna,” she mumbled looking down at her feet.

“You are going to be the death of me, Kio! How did this happen? I sent you out for lessons this morning!” Nonna Maisie asked, confused.

“I did go for lessons Nonna, but today we had a class trip to the farm. It’s Brad and Luca’s fault. They were teasing me and I-”

“I don’t want to hear it Kio! Or smell it for that matter! You should know better by now,” sighed Maisie. “Come on, my dear, let’s get you cleaned up, we have some very important visitors today and we cannot let your mother see you like this.”

Maisie knew children will always be just that - children! It was fine to have fun and play, however when you are the child of an Alpha there were certain behaviours that were not acceptable. Maisie was short in stature, barely a few inches taller than Kiona, but what she lacked in height she made up for with her commanding presence. She was a shapely woman, as buxom as they come, she always wore a knee-length skirt, a blouse and a matching cardigan; her hair usually tied up in a bun. She looked very young for eighty, but being a werewolf that was perfectly natural. They generally stop ageing after their mid twenties to thirties.

As Maisie and Kiona walked into the large mansion that was the main pack house, they walked over to the Alpha wing, where the family lived. The remaining wings of the house were divided into the main living areas, the library, the in-house cinema and living quarters for the guests, omegas, warriors and unmated wolves. The mansion was massive, but then so was the pack. It was an ancient pack that had survived centuries of history, and the size of the pack and prosperity grew over time.

Maisie took Kiona upstairs, bathed her and left her to play in the bubble bath, whilst Maisie went to sort out her clothes for the evening. Kiona loved bath time; one would almost think that she deliberately played around in the mud so she could splash about in the bubbles. She had a particularly strong connection to the elements only she didn’t quite know it yet. As Kiona played with the bubbles she didn’t realise someone else had entered the bathroom. Kiona’s countenance had a look of utmost concentration as she was completing the most important mission of her life - blowing the largest bubble in the world and she was just about to release it when she heard a laugh, breaking her concentration and causing it to burst.

“Impressive, my darling!”

“Mama, did you see?” Kiona asked proudly.

“Yes, my little one, I did. It was the biggest bubble I have ever seen!” Luna Freya replied, smiling warmly.

As Maisie returned to the bathroom, she gave a little bow.

“Luna Freya, would you like check the attire I have selected for this evening?”

“No need, Maisie, I am sure you have picked the best. However, I would like to spend a little time with Kio and dress her up. Would you mind seeing to the rest of the arrangements downstairs?”

“Certainly, Luna.”

As Maisie left to continue her duties, Freya and Kiona freshened up and got ready together for the evening function. The Luna wore a floor length, off-the-shoulder, shimmering red gown and her daughter wore a matching knee-length dress.

“Mama, what is today’s function for? Why do I have to wear this dress?” Kiona asked as her mother braided her hair.

“Your father, being the Alpha, hosts other Alpha’s from other packs, Kio. It is important to build good relationships with other packs so we can be stronger, little one. It is good to have allies. We are dressing up because it is also a special occasion today. Your older sister Ariadne has found her mate, and we will be meeting the families and celebrating this too.” Freya explained.

“What about Benjy and Bryan?” Kiona asked about her annoying older brothers.

“They will find their mates in good time, either in the pack, or at the Mating Ball.”

“I don’t want a mate, I don’t want a smelly boy as a mate!” Kiona exclaimed folding her arms.

“Well, let’s see what the Moon Goddess has in store for you, little one,” her mother teased, kissing her head. “Let’s go, Princess, we shouldn’t be late. It isn’t polite to keep our guests waiting.”

The Luna stood up and patted her gown. Taking her daughter’s arm in hers, both ladies walked downstairs to the join the festivities that were about to begin. As they walked down the stairs to the vestibule where guests began to arrive, all eyes turned to them and gazed on in admiration. Freya was a kind and loving Luna; her deep care for her pack members was reflected in their admiration and love for her.
