The Empty Page

An empty page

White

Blank

Barren

Nothingness

O the possibilities

All of them

Vast

Infinite

Fresh idioms

Sentences never strung together before

Like

“The obstinate pig leaped into the flames and saved the drowning kittens.”

Never written before

’til now

An empty page

Infinite worlds at your fingertips

The ability to create

The ability to destroy

You are the deity

Then you write

One word

Two words

Three words

And so on

Now the page isn’t empty

Now the possibilities are fewer.

The more you write

The narrower it gets

The longer it goes

The higher the risk of

Screwing up

Holes in your plot

Uneven syntax

No longer perfect

The empty page now soiled

Now the page is crumbled

It wasn’t as good as you thought

Tossed in the wastebasket

Underneath that page is

Another

Empty Page

White

Blank

Barren

Nothingness

O the possibilities
