I watched my brown-haired father pace across the floor. His muscular arms folded behind his back and a wary look on his worn face.
My father was one of the smartest men I knew. He was a wise and fair leader who always knew when and what was best to do for the pack. If my father said to jump, I would jump, if he said sit, I would sit, if he said...well you get the point. He was fucking smart.
I watched him wear a path into my hardwood floor. His face frowning as he started on the floor. I could tell he wanted to tell me something but he wasn’t saying anything. That was never a good thing.
“Father, what is it you want to tell me?” I finally break the silence.
He looks up at me startled, his green eyes bore into mine with sadness, “I’m worried about you son.” He admitted. I frowned at him. How could he be worried? I was living my best life right now, Prince of the wolves, Beta of the Crystal Wolf pack, reunited with my twin. There was nothing else I would ever need.
“Why?” I finally said.
My father huffed a sigh and came to sit in front of me, he folded his hands in his lap, his brown hair disheveled. “I know that you say you are happy, you have convinced yourself that you are perfectly fine Baden, but you are not. I can see the glaze in your eyes, the sadness that constantly follows you around. It’s consuming you, your pain will eat you alive.” He continues, I suck in a sharp breath and narrow my eyes at him.
“I’m fine.” I snap then immediately downcast my eyes, “Sorry,” I mumbled, “But you don’t need to worry about me Dad, I promise, I’m fine.” I said with hopeful conviction in my voice.
He scoffed, “You can’t lie to me son, I can feel it pup.”
I shook my head, “I’m not a pup.” I immediately protested.
“Humm.” He agrees and sits back on the brown leather couch, “Besides the point Baden.” He continued, “Your wolf longs to find its other half, you are eighteen years old now, your wolf is ready for its other half.” He starts before I can put a stop to this conversation he shushes me, “Son, you have been alone long enough and if anyone deserves a mate it is you. Go, search for your mate and allow one of your brothers to hold your place as Beta for you, they are willing to help you, Baden.” He urges.
I immediately shake my head, “No,” I protest, “I can’t leave Kenna, I need to protect her.” I add.
That had been a huge fear of Seth (My wolf) andme. A constant cloud of fear loomed over us worrying that our newfound twin would be sentenced to death or kidnapping again. We couldn’t take the chance, we wouldn’t leave her.
My father's eyes hardened, “Baden, do you truly think that Kade or Brandon or I would allow anything to happen to her? She is the damn princess of the moon, the entire world would protect her.” My father scoffed and basically read my mind. I downcast my eyes once again while tapping my fingers against my knee, “We all want you to be happy, son. Go and find your mate, you can’t be alone forever.” He added.
He was right. Not finding my mate could make me crazy, my soul forever alone, and desperately searching for its other half, it would kill Seth andme. We couldn’t protect Kenna if we were dead...and Father was right, I deserved to be happy. I had longed for a mate for longer than I could remember, it was time I did something about it.
“Fine.” I agreed. “I will go out and find my mate.”
