Year 2003
Black Citroen was on the road. In the middle sat a family 2+1. The trio sang AC/DC's "Highway to Hell". The road was smooth and empty. The father told a joke and laughed. The girl in the back seat laughed with him, even though she did not understand the joke. The mother smacked her husband in the arm and they began to tease.
Suddenly something hit the side of the vehicle, sending it into the air. Little girl screamed and curled up hugging a stuffed cat to her chest. She squeezed her eyes shut. There was a mighty crash... and then silence. Little one cautiously opened her eyes. On the front, where her parents should be, was a bloody pulp. A tree limb pierced the windshield. Their blood was on her face, outfit, toy... The girl was only five years old, but she knew that mom and dad are dead. She felt tears on her cheeks. She wanted to scream but could not.
Run, whispered voice in her head, Get out, quick!
Pushed by invisible force she began to unbutton her belt, grabbed the backpack and began to jerk the door. Glass jumped out and invisible hands helped her out of the car. She began to run along the road. Then there was a loud bang and the car has been consumed by fire.
12 years later, Singapore...
The Mid-Autumn Festival was one of Jack Frost's favorite holidays. It was cheerful, colorful and very noisy. Totally in his style. So many joy, fun and, of course, mooncakes... Mmm, absolutely delicious!
Young spirit of winter prowled through buildings and crowds in Singapore. Frosty ferns and flowers appeared on walls and water. People didn't pay attention to this anomaly. They treated it like another attraction of festival. Jack stole few mooncakes and sat on railing of the bridge. It was wonderful. Music, full moon, happy people... What a wonderful world.
"Jack?" it was female voice. On the wooden bridge the young girl was. She had tanned skin, slim figure, orange-amber eyes, dark hair tied in ponytail and black nails. Her clothes looked as khaki battle dress with black combat boots, reaching to the knees. Around her neck was necklace with orange-violet gem. She looked worried and... happy. "Jack Frost? It's you?"
"Do I know you?" Jack looked at her surprised. She's a teenager and can see me?
"Of course, you charming jerk, we were together, you don't remember already?" now she was surprised. "You've given me that"
The girl rolled up her sleeve, revealing a layer of frost on the right forearm. It didn't look like normal frostbite; it was rather decorative design. Fern with swirls. Jack blinked. Yeah, it was his misbehavior, but how...?
"I'm really sorry" Jack shook his head. "But I don't know you. I don't even know your name"
"I'm Natalia" in the girl's eyes filled with tears, "Natalia Amber. Frost, damn it, you have to remember!"
"No offense, but I should remember such nice snowflake" Jack held out his hand to her.
"Sunshine," she snapped. Her golden eyes shone intensely, "You always called me a Sunshine"
"Seriously?" she made a facepalm, when she heard it "Okay, sorry... Natalia, but I really don't remember you" Amber bit her lip, turned on her heel and ran away, "Hey, wait! Sunshine, come on!"
Natalia didn't want to listen him. How could he...?! No, stop, come back. How Guardians could? They have had to modify his memories! It's the only explain. Suddenly she felt unusually cold. Shadows surrounded her. Very dark and deep shadows.
"You" she growled, folding her arms across her chest. "Out. Now"
"Something's wrong, my child?" asked silky, male voice with British accent. From the darkness came out tall, skinny figure in black coat.
"Why your clothes are always so... Pitch Black?" Amber couldn't stop herself from smirk.
"You're far worse than your mother" the Nightmare King sighed, but smiled. He liked this girl more than he admitted. "It's because of this winter brat? Did he make you sad?"
"Nevermind" Natalia wanted go away, but Pitch grabbed her wrist. "Let go!"
"I am not a target of your anger, my dear" the man reminded her, "The guardians and their merry band made you suffer. Even before you've stepped into this sad underworld"
"You think I don't know that?!" she snapped pushing his hand away, "I just want..." tears welled up in her eyes. She couldn't stop it. "Shit, I hate that!"
"I'm afraid that I can't change this" Pitch chuckled and hugged the girl "Everything will be fine. I promise you"
"Thank you" she muttered. Amber trusted him. And that was one of aces in his sleeves.
