Chapter 1: A knight to be

This story takes place in the land of Bargas, a continent filled with magic and split between several creatures making different kingdoms. However, the three biggest kingdoms are that of the dragons, elves, and humans. And in the Eltus Forest, a teen age elf was being attacked by a dragon.

“Why are you attacking me?!” asked the elf who was fifteen-years-old as she ran through the trees, her green dress ripped by a tree branch that had snared it. She also had blond hair and deep blue eyes.

“You entered my forest without my permission, now you must die!” said the dragon as he shot a fireball at her.

“No!” said the elf as she fell off a cliff side before the fireball could hit her. Luckily, there was a river below, breaking her fall.

“At least I got away from him,” said the elf while breathing heavily as she pulled herself up to the shore.

“Are you alright?” asked a sixteen-year-old human boy as he ran up to her. He was wearing some worn out armor and had a sword on his waist. The boy’s hair was red while his eyes were a mud brown.

“I’m fine for someone that just escaped a dragon by jumping off a cliff,” said the elf.

“You must be talking about Dorlas, he hates when someone enters his part of the forest without warning, so I alway scream out for him when I get close to it,” said the boy.

“Well you think he would make an exception for the Elf Princess,” said the girl as she twisted part of her dress out to get the water out to some degree.

“My apologies, Princess Elrain, I did not realize it was you,” said the boy as he knelt before her.

“It’s alright; by the way, you didn’t tell me your name,” said Elrain who did not act like a princess in the least.

“My name is Fang, I was actually on my way to the Elf Kingdom, I’m trying to get a job as a knight there,” said the guy as he stood back up.

“Since we are heading the same way, do you mind if I come along with you?” asked Elrain.

“Not at all, it would be dishonorable not to bring you with me,” said Fang with a smile.

“I also have some clothes that would fit you if you would like,” said Fang as he pointed to a nearby horse with a saddle and a donkey with bags on the sides.

“I would appreciate it,” said Elrain as she stopped ringing out her dress. That night, the two stopped to make camp a little ways down the road.

“If the King was to see his daughter in those clothes, I bet he would be furious,” said Fang as he and Elrain sat next to a fire. Elrain was wearing a deer hide shirt and pants with leaves sewed onto the sides.

“Actually, he would not care given the situation I’m in, and I’m not a typical Princess to begin with,” said Elrain with a laugh.

“I’m just sorry I don’t have better clothes for you, I don’t have much money to buy stuff like that, and roadside stands don’t have good clothes in the first place,” said Fang.

“Is that why you want to become a knight?” asked Elrain.

“Yeah, and I especially want a job in the Elf Kingdom because they pay better there than the human kingdom, I also don’t want to follow my father’s footsteps,” said Fang with a slightly angered expression. Before Elrain could say anything, a loud roar filled the area.

“That’s Dorlas’s roar, he must have followed us!” said Fang as he stood up with his sword ready. The clouds that had been covering the moon suddenly moved, allowing Fang to see Dorlas flying right to them.

“We need to get out of here,” said Elrain. However, it was too late, Dorlas had shot a fireball ahead of them, cutting their path off.

“If it’s a fight you want, do it with me!” said Fang as his eyes started to glow bright red. As Dorlas got closer, Fang jumped into the air, and Elrain fell to the ground in order to dodge him.

“Get off of me, human!” said Dorlas as he started a steep ascent.

“This will be a message to the other renegade dragons, that I won’t let you hurt anyone,” said Fang as he thrusted his sword into the soft spot behind Dorlas’s ear.

“Argh!” said Dorlas as he started to fall. Fang tried to hold on to his scales, but it was no use, he lost his grip and fell to the earth with the force of a train.

“Fang!” said Elrain as she ran to him. When she found him, she was surprised to see Fang alive and covered in red dragon scales.

“Guess my secrets out,” said Fang as the scales vanished from sight.

“You’re a dragon?” asked Elrain with a shocked expression.

“On my mom’s side, dad’s side is human,” said Fang as he stood up, obviously sore from the hard impact.

“What else are you hiding from me?” asked Elrain.

“I had planned to tell you and your father when we got to the kingdom,” said Fang before he took notice that Dorlas was gone.

“But first, I think we need to find a place for the night that’s even further from the forest,” said Fang.

“I thought that would have killed him,” said a worried Elrain.

“It’ll take time, my sword was still in his soft spot when I fell so he’s not going to bleed out,” said Fang as it started to rain, putting the fire from Dorlas’s attack out.
