Etrufar, a world where people used three sources of unique power. Magic, soul energy, and science. In this world, those who can’t use any of the three sources are normal people who are deemed worthless by people with powers. The world has its own ranking system that decides who is in the upper or lower class. Those with no powers are ranked at the bottom. They are rank Nomin or peasants. But those who supremely master all three sources of power can be ranked at the highest, Hyogi-kai or Council.

Only three Hyogi-kai rule the world and keep everything in balance. They control everything and everybody except for one place and that place is the island of Ufaro. It is home to everyone. Everyone is treated equally and there is no king or queen. It’s only people who manage their own place and regulate their own trades and rules. It is the only place in the world that allows any species to live among humans without getting treated badly. The only obvious one that get treated badly are criminals or people who brag about their ranks outside the island and treat others lowly.

That’s why I always stay on this island. It’s huge, friendly, and magical. No need to worry about the rank system. Free food from the tavern. Someone strong nearby to protect me. It’s like a paradise minus wandering criminals and government officials, people who rank near Hyogi-kai.

I imagine myself outside Ufaro. Ranking Nomin, powerless, and most definitely useless. I’m just like an animal which people go hunting. I have no skill, no magic, no soul energy, and definitely no knowledge of science at all. Worst of all, I’m a demi-human which is less superior than human. But there is one person I look up to. Even though he is one rank under a Hyogi-kai, he is a Koete or Beyond.

As I rested on a sturdy tree branch of an oak tree, one eye asleep and another looking at the cloudy sky. The village near me was loud because so many people visited there and the forest outside the open gate was calm and silent. It was spring and the mix of people chattering and the cold wind balanced it out. But then I heard a couple of people shouting below me. I lifted my head and looked down at them. What’s going on down there. I’m trying to rest peacefully.

“We are here to go looting this village. Whoever gets in our way will be punished! We have weapons and we don’t want to use them.” It was the bandits who were picking a fight again. One of them with a brown bandana pulled out a sharp steel dagger with a leather handle and flipped it then spoke. “We will be looting every valuables. Money. Ours. Jewelry. Ours. Your expensive coffin that you bury your relative. Also ours.”

“And your special herbs.” The lizardman bandit hissed. Four bandits, picking trouble outside the open gate of Kiffel.

A bunch of people in variety walked in front of the bandits. Few with suspicious black robes. Mostly demi-human animals with fierce growls and threatening glares. The bandits slowly backed off as one of the people in the group stepped forward. The man had orange hair like fire while wearing golden armor with orange rims. His eyes blazed bright yellow like the sun and the sword he wielded on his right hand was on fire. The heat intimidated everyone but the people who were most afraid of it were the bandits.

“We’re not afraid of that torch toy you have there. You think that sword is gonna intimidate us. You forgot that the world is much bigger than this pathetic place.” The red bandana man boasted. He pointed his dagger at the man with the fire sword, slightly shaking. The bandit chuckled as he stepped aside to reveal a mysterious person who wore a dark brown cloak. “Though I’m not the one you will be facing. We will be looting instead as you all have to face a buddy of mine.”

The orange man lifted his fire sword and pointed at the bandits. “If you wanted to borrow money. Why don’t you just ask? Why risk your lives just to be greedy.”

“Did the heat just make you say mumbo jumbo. We’re bandits. We steal because we want to steal. It’s like a hobby for usss.” The lizardman pulled out a crossbow and aimed at the man. The man darted toward them and aimed for the crossbow with his sword. The person under the cloak quickly dashed in front of the lizardman with a dark blade with violet edge and ancient symbols. The dark blade collided with the fire sword, creating a huge energy shockwave that managed to make me fall off the tree branch that I was resting on. This is not good. Why do they have to be so powerful!

“AHhh!” I fell on top of one of the bandits who stood under the tree branch. The bandana man looked back and stared at me. I stared back then quickly got off the bandit I fell on and made a run for it.

As the cloaked man and the man with the fire sword was in combat. The open gate area of Kiffel swirled with powerful magic and energy. As each blade forcefully collided into each other, it created multiple shockwaves that were very hot and spine chilling, slowly pushing everyone except those two away.

The bandana man observed the fight but then turned to look at me. “We can’t steal anything if they keep fighting. But we can still profit. We might have uses for that demi-human there.” The man whistled then pointed at me, signaling the other bandits to go after me. “Go! We don’t want to return empty handed.”

As I sprinted away, the other bandits pulled out an old rock with an ancient symbol on it. They then tossed it and spectral horses appeared. The spectral horses are blue-ish teal like ghosts from a graveyard. They looked like regular horses except that they are ghost-like and you can slightly see through them. Their eyes glowed white as their feet spark ghastly smoke. Those horses even have their own spectral saddle. The bandits got on their horses and then they quickly catched up. That’s cheating!

“Please! Why are you after me! Please leave me alone! I’m useless and I didn’t do anything wrong!” I yelled as I ran. But their horses were too fast. They ended up near me with one of the bandits holding a large sack bag, preparing to capture me. “Like really. I’m just a normal person. I don’t want any trouble.”

The lizardman bandit scoffed. “Be a good dog and let us capture you. Maybe your fur can be sold or maybe be worth it to be sold as a slave. So many ways to profit. It’s kinda fun to think about it. Go!” He whipped his spectral horse to go faster. He opened the sack and then quickly dashed for me.

“No!” I tripped on the rock and as I fell midair, the lizardman caught me in the sack. He quickly tied it. Now, I am captured. Powerless and realized there was no point of struggling. The only thing I depend on was luck. Right now, I believe my luck has gone off the cliff and it’s also myself who’s gonna fall off the cliff to someone who’s gonna hurt me or control me. I guess luck can’t always be right next to me.

I am a demi-human wolf though mostly wolf than human. Some people, they me furry which is a good thing I suppose? I’m nothing special beside that I look very neutral. White fur, light gray eyes, wore gray jacket and sweatpants. Nothing special beside the white bandage over my chest. Can’t seem to get it off but it was always there. The only thing I call unique about myself is that I’m genderless. It’s weird to describe it but I think I like being in the middle. Wish being in the middle includes power so I just be like everyone else who doesn’t get picked on. I was born without any parents so I wasn’t supported or anything. I lived alone my whole life, wondering why it had to be me. I, Tyhond. That one lone wolf.

In this world, you have to become strong to survive. Otherwise you end up like me, weak and only depend on luck. But I shouldn’t really complain since there are probably people who are in worse situations then I am.

It was a rough ride. The sack I was in was attached to the horse. For a few hours, I just closed my eyes and rested. Trying not to fall in despair of what gonna happen next. Just hope for the best.

After time has passed. The sack that I was in suddenly detached from the horse and stumbled on a bunch of rock and then it rolled down something bumpy. I rolled with it, getting dizzy after a few seconds. The sack bag’s rope that tied it slightly loosen and I could see light from the outside. It seemed like I was rolling down a rocky hill but it wasn’t too bad until I rolled off a waterfall cliff and into a large lake.

I struggled and then the rope fully loosen and I managed to get out of the bag, swimming up to the surface. As I made it to the surface, the sun shined at my face. I flinched but then got adjusted to the light. The one question I asked myself is. . . Where am I?

The area I am currently in is unfamiliar. A large freshwater lake connected to a river and a waterfall. Pink-ish white lotuses and lily pads slowly slide passed each other. The waterfall rapidly splashed water behind and I could critters, mostly dragonfly, flying around the edge of the lake. I was somewhere near the center of the lake and I could see a mansion in front of me, right next to the river. It doesn’t look like any friendly mansion from the one at the island of Ufaro. Well Ufaro only had one mansion and a peaceful devil owned it. This one that’s far front seemed to belong to a royal family.

I swam up to the lakefront and decided to travel up to the mansion. I don’t usually take risks but I’m in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by forest and you never know who might live in an unknown area. My luck so far hasn’t been the best. The chance for whoever lived at the mansion is friendly.

“Excuse me. I hope you aren’t some thieves I heard about a few days ago. I don’t want any criminals walking in the area of my ancestor.” A boy around my age appeared on the left side of me. I didn’t even notice him as I was walking. That scared me. You appeared from nowhere.

I looked at the boy who was wearing blue silky fabric and leather boots. His hair is dark brown and his eyes were navy blue. On his left hand, he has a smooth wooden staff with outer texture that resembles the inside of an ancient oak tree. The staff is short and a bit thick so he placed his palm on top of the tip of the staff. I replied, “No, I’m not-”

The boy swiftly drew his double edge sword from the staff and quickly pointed at my neck. “Tell me who you are first and why you’re here. Then you make your own excuse.”

This isn’t so bad. This boy just has trust issues. If I’m really lucky, he could be my friend. Someone who can explain where I am and even help me return back to Ufaro. But first, I have to convince this boy that I’m a friend and not a thief. Those bandits that kidnap me are definitely the thieves but not me. I’m just a friendly furry!
