~Chapter One~
Katelyn Goldner didn’t want to leave her best friend, but she could do nothing about it because it was not her decision but that of her parents to move to a new town. This enabled her father to help his best friend expand the Valentino Corporation as the vice president. She was only ten years old when they separated, and she has not spoken to him in the last seven years. Both of their hearts were broken that day when they were ten years old, and in doing so, their personalities changed. The Goldner’s never returned to Jacksonville but to a new town called Havenborough.
Katelyn is now seventeen, and she is no longer the little girl she was seven years ago as time has changed her. Since moving yet again, she has found out that the Valentino’s also moved to Havenborough three years ago. The reason for the move is only known by the Valentino’s. As Katelyn is starting her final year at Havenborough High, she hopes that life will be peaceful and complete her studies.
Riding into Havenborough High on her Harley, she got the whole student body’s attention because of the distinctive sound a Harley makes. She knew they probably thought the person riding in was a male as she had placed her long wavy light brown hair in a bun inside her helmet. This would then enable her to have some mystery in the student body. One student then separated from his friends to walk up to Katelyn, where she had parked in the first empty spot she saw. Upon reaching her, he said, “Hey mate, what do you think you are doing?”
He had asked this question as everyone in the student body knows that this specific spot that the new student parked in is the reserved spot of the ‘IT’ Couple. The ‘IT’ Couple consists of Douglas James and Katrina Furious. The car spot for which Katelyn has taken is supposedly theirs.
Katelyn then took her helmet off, and in doing so, her long wavy hair falls out as somehow her bun had come undone. This was a surprise to all the students no girl in this town knows how to ride a motorbike. This informed the student body that she had to be the new student rumoured to arrive this week. Now everyone could put a face to the name even though no one knew her name. Katelyn got off the Harley and turned to look at the teenager who asked her the question, “How about you mind your own business,” Katelyn answered.
She started to walk towards the school building when she remembered and turned back in his direction, “Oh, by the way, I am not your mate,” she stated. Then continued her way towards the school building. She was just coming through the school doors when she hit someone also walking into the school building. Katelyn was about to apologise for knocking into them but noticed they would not hear her as they were wearing headphones. It does not count that they never felt her hit them as they kept on walking into the building. Seeing as she could not say her apology, she continued walking while looking for the main office. As she needs her schedule and code for her locker.
Katelyn was walking down the hall, somehow missing the other students going to their lockers or classes. One girl noticed how lost she looked on where to go and walked towards her and touched her shoulder. Katelyn stopped and turned around to face the girl with wavy ash blonde hair and pale green eyes upon feeling the touch.
“Yes,” Katelyn asked.
“Hi, you looked a bit lost and thought you might need someone to point you in the right direction,” the girl informed her.
“Does it look like it?” she inquires, and, in that time, a boy with shoulder brown hair and hazel eyes came up behind the girl.
“Yes, as you are looking at all the signs trying to find a certain room, I guess,” the boy notified Katelyn.
“Have you two been following me?” Katelyn questioned, not used to somebody walking up to her.
“No, it was just that Emma walked away from her locker after noticing you and how lost you looked,” he answered.
“Oh, I see, sorry for questioning you. I am just not used to people walking up to me,” she replies. Everyone usually leaves her alone to find her way around, which might be because she dresses and rides a Harley.
“All good, would you like us to show you the way to the main office,” Emma asked.
“If you wouldn’t mind, as I don’t plan on missing any classes because of my loss of directions,” she replied with a small smile. At least someone was willing to help her out.
“I see, follow us,” she says before walking away in the direction of the school office. Katelyn wasn’t far behind her and was keeping pace with her.
“The names Jake by the way,” he introduced himself, seeing as he never did so earlier as they followed Emma. They soon stopped in front of a set of double doors that had a plank above that read ‘MAIN OFFICE’ near the school’s front doors. Katelyn thought she might have passed it when she walked in.
The three walked through the double doors into a medium-sized waiting area with a receptionist desk and three doors. On one door, it read ‘NURSE OFFICE’ and was found close to the reception desk that was found on the left. Another two doors could be found across from the entry they had just walked through. The one on the left had read ‘VICE-PRINCIPAL’ and the one on the right had ‘PRINCIPAL’. Then across from the receptionist desk was a large window from ceiling to floor. A beautifully decorated garden with a large oak tree in the middle could be seen outside.
Upon reaching the receptionist, the lady looked up as the three stopped in front of her desk. “Hello, what can I do for you?” she asked. She wore her long auburn hair in a ponytail, and her light grey eyes kindly looked up at the three students in front of her.
“Hi, my name is Katelyn Goldner; I just transferred here. I came to get my locker code and timetable,” Katelyn answered, seeing as she was the one who needed something from the office in the first place.
“Okay, let me look you for your name in the system and then I will print off all that you would need for your time here”, the lady replied. She turned to her computer and typed Katelyn’s full name into the system. Upon finding her name and the documents needed, she printed them off. When it was done spitting out the paper, she turned around to the printer, picked up what was printed and handed it to Katelyn. “Here you go, your locker code and timetable,” she says.
“Thank you,” Katelyn replied before picking up the paper and walking away, with Emma and Jake following her out. As she walked out of the main office double doors and back into the hallway, she checked her timetable and locker number.
“Hey, do you know where Locker 799 is?” Katelyn asked. See8ing as her and directions are not friends. She has been like that ever since she was a child.
“Yeah, it’s the last locker in the senior section of the school building,” Emma answered. “We can show you the way as we are also seniors here,” she added as an afterthought.
“If you wouldn’t mind, I looked at the map that is on the paper, but my sense of direction is bad, so I would most likely get lost,” Katelyn informed Emma.
“Awesome, could I look at your timetable while we make our way to the senior lockers,” Emma says. She held her hand out for Katelyn timetable while walking down the hallway.
“Sure,” Katelyn replied. Handing the paper piece to Emma to see whether they had any classes together.
The bell had yet to ring for the first period. It should be going off in 20 minutes, and they were sure they could find Katelyn locker and get to class before the bell goes. It took the three 8 minutes to get to the senior section of the school, an area of 2 hallways that comes at a T-section. For which you could either go left or right. Each hall had at least 150 lockers in them to accommodate all of the senior students. Emma was quiet while walking, seeing as she looking at Katelyn timetable. Trying to remember her own schedule and seeing whether they had any classes together. It was a wonder how Emma did not fall or hit someone as she was walking as she was barely looking at where she was going. That was because Jake was behind her and watched her every step to ensure there were no problems for Emma. He is used to doing this as Emma always had something in her hand or was not paying attention to where she is walking. He had learnt when they were younger to watch her, seeing as she injured herself a lot because she was not looking where she was going.
“So, how about we go to your lockers first, seeing as you guys already know which one is your lockers,” Katelyn thought and informed.
“Sure, that not a bad idea,” Jake answers for both him and Emma. This is seeing as Emma had not heard Katelyn and was still looking at the timetable.
As they reached the seniors’ lockers T-section, Jake turned right while pushing Emma in that direction. Katelyn just followed, seeing as she had no idea where her locker is. Seeing as both Jake and Emma lockers were next to each other, it only took them about 5 minutes to put away what they did not need and take out what they do need. Katelyn was still unsure what class she had first because Emma still had her timetable. They soon started walking to the other side of the T-section in which Katelyn locker would be found.
Katelyn followed behind the other two till they reached the end of the hall, to which they noticed that the locker next to Katelyn was opened. It was difficult to see whose locker it was as they are behind the locker door.
Upon walking by the locker and towards her own locker, she noticed that she would reside next to the person she hit into this morning. “Oh, I forgot Daniel locker was down here,” Emma said out loud upon noticing who it was. Katelyn disregarded the comment, opened her locker and put all her books inside. She then asked Emma, “What my first two classes?“. Seeing as she has yet to look correctly at her timetable.
“Right, you have English with both Jake and I and Chemistry with me,” she answered. This enabled Katelyn to choose two of her blank exercise books. She has no textbooks as she has yet to receive any. Daniel, who was next to her, had disappeared when she closed her locker door. Turning, she noticed Jake and Emma was leaning on the wall next to her locker, talking while waiting for her to finish. Katelyn was finally going to start her first day at a new school and had no ideas of the adventure she would have.
