Her beginning

I swept the floor as I heard everyone else laughing. Chatter and laughs were exchanged in the dining room above me while I stayed in the basement. I sighed as I set the broom aside before tying my black hair back in a messy ponytail. I looked behind me and observed the room. The lighting didn't help as it was dim, almost like those orange-ish lights you'd see in those fancy houses on TV. But this was far from any type of luxury, no, this was a hell hole. The washers lined against the wall to my left while the other held dryers. The stoned floor was cold and hard, making it that much more painful to be on my knees every day.

I looked to my "bed" area which was just an old, torn mattress one of the pups outgrew. Next to it held a broken mirror. I stared at it as I took my appearance in. My skin dark and dirty as the moonlight that shined through a small window above the dryers. I had scars and still healing bruises from when some of the pack members came down for a not-so-freindly vist. My hair was a rat's nest and my once vibrant green eyes looked dull and lifeless. My face looked like a skeleton of who I used to be. I hated it. I hated myself. Why did I have to live like this.

"It's not your fault Amira."

She always said that. She always tried to make me feel better whenever I degraded myself. I knew it wasn't my fault, it was the damned system's.

"I know Erza. It was never our fault."

My wolf, Erza, couldn't help but try to comfort me. It was each other's instinct. We felt everything the other was feeling. I looked at the mirror longer as I cringed even more. My clothes were dirty and ripped in places. It was a standard maid's outfit. A simple white petticoat and black top with a brown apron. The only clothes I was ever given were clothes to wash for pack members. I gasp before quickly running to a washer and pretending I was cleaning it out as I heard the door open. The sounding of heels giving way to who was here. The room filled with the smell of lavender and lemon. I cringed as I knew what was to come. I didn't dare to look up as a lower rank looking into a higher rank's eyes would be a great insult.

"You!" Her voice echoed through the room. I kept my head down as I saw her black heels appear next to me. I heard the rustle of a bag and took the chance to look up but before I could glance at what she was doing she poured a pile of clothes onto me. "Make sure to put these on a light wash. I need these for my announcement of luna." I didn't need to look at her to know she had the same smug look on her as she always does. I heard her turn around as I looked back up at her only to see her long brown hair disappearing into the staircase.

I groan and pushed the clothes off me. I stared at the window before climbing onto a dryer and staring at the moon as it shined above me. I could climb anytime but it was always risky. I heard laughs as the door opened and down came a small black bag. I stopped in my spot as I smelled something beautiful fill the room. I stared at the bag and salivated. I scrambled off the dryer and toward the bag as I could hear my stomach growl as I opened the bag. My happiness quickly turned into sadness as I realized the bag was filled with bones, no meat attached what-so-ever. I should've known they were messing with me.

"I have an idea."

Erza's voice rang through my head.

"What?"

I questioned but was only greeted with her clawing at my head. I felt unsure but undressed before letting her forward anyway. I could hear my bones breaking and cracking as I tried my best not to cry out in pain. I opened my eyes and quickly realized I was no longer human. I stood and shook off my fur, looking toward the mirror. My fur my a simple black with a white under belly. My right front paw held a light brown pattern that traveled up my paw and to my elbow. It looked almost like wind swaying but what always catches my eye is the side of it, it looked as if it were a half of a heart.

"What's your idea?"

I asked as my body began to move on its own. I sat back into my mind as I watched through Mira's eyes. I was watching as she began to devour the bones in an instant.

"You can't handle eating bones like this but I can. The nutrients will go through both of us."

I silently thanked her as she finished. I shifted again but couldn't stop the slight yell of pain. I slipped my clothes back onto me and walked over to my "bed" to rest for the night. I laid facing the window and looked at it as if it was a goddess sent gift. I slowly closed my eyes with one thought in mind.

I WILL leave this place.
