Chapter 1
“Adam, I swear if you don’t clean up after your victims I am going to throttle you!” I yelled up the stairs.
“Yeah, the blood stains the carpet,” Gretchen shouted as she walked down the stairs.
“And overwhelms my senses,” I added.
“What are you guys yelling about?” Amy asked as she walked out of her bedroom rubbing her eyes.
“Adam has been leaving bodies everywhere again,” I said. “Go back to sleep, this is no discussion for a human,” I said. Amy returned to her room.
“You’re leaving it a bit late, it’s nearly eight,” Gretchen reminded me.
“Oh god, make sure Adam cleans up,” I said grabbing my bag and running out the door to my motorcycle. I had a cage in the local lock-up outside town. I threw my bag down next to the cage and took off my clothes, soon enough the wolf ripped through my broken skin and broken bones. It rattled the bars with clawed hands, it bit at the metal and chipped its canines. After a few moments, the creature pushed me into the window of its eye. I had no control and the creature took over.
It broke the bars and lolloped into town, nose pressed to the ground, it killed a homeless man as he slumbered on the streets. It made its way down to the canal and tore into someone’s boat and murdered them in their beds. The creature soon became bored and took off onto the outskirts. It killed a few sheep before finding shelter in the forest. It slept in the caressing rays of grandmother moon. I awoke the next morning far from the flat, I panicked as no familiar scent washed over my nose. I wandered into the field nearby and recognized the horses. “I hate you sometimes wolf,” I said.
I took the long walk back to the house. The fresh cold morning breeze bit into my exposed flesh. Many people gave me strange glances but I just ignored them, when the house came into view my pace quickened. I pounded on the door impatiently, “come on guys! It’s freezing out here!” I yelled. I heard footsteps thumping down the steps, Gretchen answered the door, I snatched the blanket from her hands and wrapped it around myself.
“Wake up in the woods again?” she asked as she shut the door behind us.
“Yep,” I said and stormed up the stairs, grabbed the nearest clothes from my room and ran into the shower. The warm water tingled as my flesh came back to life from the numbness of the cold.
“Hurry up!” Adam pounded on the door, he was still half asleep as he slurred his words.
“Did you clear up the bodies?” I yelled over the water.
“Er... yes?” he replied.
“Not good enough, I am going to stay in here longer,” I said.
“If it smells like a wet dog in there again, I swear I’m going to kill you!” He growled.
“Ha! You can’t touch me my blood is toxic to you,” I laughed running my fingers through my hair. After a few minutes, I decided to stop being cruel to Adam and came out of the shower. I wrapped the blanket around my shoulders and went downstairs, Gretchen had a warm mug of hot cocoa in her hand and handed it to me.
“Did you eat last night?” she asked.
“A rabbit or maybe a stag,” I replied.
“That beast is cruel to you,” she said as we both collapsed onto the sofa.
“It is but it’s nature and how it is. Besides, I am used to this routine now,” I said.
