Prologue
I run up to my mom and grab her pant legs and tug lightly. “Mommy look!” I say to her and she looks.0
“Oh and who is this?” She asks causing me to giggle.
“This is Ki- Kilan” I say struggling to say his name, and scrunch up my eyebrows.
“I’m Killian” my new friend said to my mom.
“Well it is very nice to meet you Killian” my mom says.
I smile over at Killian and then go over to him and grab his hand.
“Come on let’s go play!” I say to him and start dragging him back to the playground.
That happened 4 years ago. I am now 8, Killian and I have been best friends ever since. I am so happy he is my best friend. Ever since that day in the park we have been inseparable. It’s a good thing our parents are friends cause if they hated each other I don’t know how that would work.
I walk down the stairs to see my mama and dad talking to Killian’s parents. I see Killian and his older brother and run over to them.
“Brother bear!” I call out and Killian’s older brother looks to me and I run to him and jump into his arms.
“Hi baby bear” he says with a smile and ruffles my hair, which makes me giggle.
I give him a tight hug and then he puts me back on the ground and I run over to Killian. “Care bear!” I say and give him a tight hug.
Yeah I saw him yesterday but it feels like to long. “Kitty!” He says as he hugs me.
“What’s going on care bear?” I ask him because the adults look like they are having a very serious conversation.
“Luna dear” my father says and I look up to him.
“Mhm” I say to him.
“Your mother and I need to talk to you about something” he says and bends down to my height.
“Ok!” I say with a smile
“Come dear” my mother says and goes to grab my hand but I go back and hug Killian not wanting to be away from him.
“Can Killian come?” I ask them doing my best doggy eyes and pouty lip.
“Killian’s parents are going to talk to him in another room” my dad says and I scrunch up my eyebrows.
“Why can’t we just talk together?” I ask and look at Killian and he looks at me and just nods.
My mom and dad look up to Killian’s parents and they nod.
“Ok” my dad says and stands up and pauses before saying “We are going to be moving to England”
“What?!” Killian and I nearly scream at the same time and look at each other with horror in our eyes and hold onto each other closer.
“No!” I yell at them and start balling and hold onto Killian tighter. I will not leave my best friend. It would be different if we were moving to a different town, but all the way across the world?! Nope sorry not gonna do it.
“Luna we have to go. We have already packed all of your things, we have to leave in 20 minutes. A car will come to pick us up” my dad says completely calm.
I feel my lower lip start to quiver and I start crying again. By now Killian is crying with me and we are just holding onto each other tightly, refusing to let go.
“Say your good byes Luna” my mom says sadly and the adults start talking again.
“I can’t leave you care bear” I say to Killian and pull away from him.
“I don’t want you to leave kitty” he says and pulls me back to him.
“Come here guys” Brother bear says and we both run over to him and he just holds us together in a group hug.
I pull away tears still in my eyes and look to my mom. “Mama? Can you grab a paper and pen please?” I ask her still crying.
“Of course my dear” she says and walks off to get a pen and paper.
She comes back with the pen and paper and I take the items from her, and sit on the floor.
“Care bear” I say to him and he comes and sits next to me.
“I’m going to write all of my nicknames for you on this paper for you to keep and remember me” I say and start crying again.
“I can never forget you kitty” he says and hugs me tightly before letting me go so I can write the paper.

I write the names on the paper and hand them to Killian.
“Did I forget any?” I ask him
“No” he says and I see his lip quivering.
I hug him tightly and he hugs me back.
“Will you write one for me?” I ask him and he nods his head vigorously which makes me smile sadly.
His moms goes and gets a paper and comes back and gives it to him. I hand him the pen and he puts the blank paper on the floor and starts writing.

Once he finishes writing them all down he hands me the paper.
“Did I forget any?” He says and smiles sadly at me.
“No” I say to him sadly and we stand and hug each other tightly, and then step apart:
“Luna we have to go” I hear dad say.
“No I’m not ready!” I say to him and turn and look at Killian and Xander, brother bear, with tears in my eyes.
I go to run to Killian with my paper in hand but my dad scoops me up and takes me out the front door. I start screaming and flailing my arms and legs.
“No! Please no! I can’t leave Killian!” I scream at him and I see Killian run out of the house and tried to run to me but his mother stops him.
He is also in tears and screaming. “No! Don’t leave me Luna!” He says and I feel the tears flow out stronger.
Somehow my dad manages to get me in the car and locks my doors so I can’t get out. I look out through the back window and scramble up to it so I can be as close as possible. I am still crying but my screaming has stopped.
I mouth I’m sorry though the window to Killian. The car starts to drive and I see my best friend slowly start to become smaller and smaller. Eventually they are gone, and I am headed off to England.
