Life.
There is a legend, that one day, the Phoenix Goddess would bestow her powers to a mortal, so that they may find the dragon, and finally bring peace to this sinful world.

I walk down the road towards the small town of Trinity. I can’t help but look at the sloping hills around me, and the dirt road, wondering what this place looked like before everything came crashing down on the government.
We had once been a place called The United States, and Trinity used to be called Little Rock, in the territory of a ‘State’ called Arkansas.
Then, something happened to the government, and it all collapsed back into the ages of Kings and Queens.
Some Kings of certain areas still had things called “Cars.” Big metal things that people used to ride in.
I shoot back to reality as soldiers ride by on their horses, whistling at me. Forcing myself to smile, I turn my head to wink at them, then roll my eyes when I go back to look at the road.
Dumbasses can’t ride. I think to myself, noting how they slouched in the saddle and were tugging on the bit every two seconds. If I were to jump on any horse, I could easily beat them in a race.
My family comes from a line of horseman back in the Old World. My dad told me that our Great-Great-Great-Great-Great Grandparents were Showjumpers, Jockeys, Dressage Masters, Barrel Racers, and so many more, and that each were well known in their sport, and some even in the world.
He taught me how to ride, but he didn’t teach me everything I know.
My more advanced skills came from pure practice, and dangerous situations.
I am what the soldiers and the higher-ups would call a Marauder, except, I don’t wander, I stay in one place, stealing from higher-ups.
Looking up, I see the entrance of Trinity, and as I walk up, I shoot the entrance guards a flirty smile to slide right through without being searched.
Just like that, a girl with some good looks and an interior motive can slide right past guards.
I take a left turn in the middle of town, walking into a shady-looking shop.
Making my way to the owner, I study the building, looking for any people in the shop, or traps that might be staged. When I see none, I speak.
“Alright, I have the jem.”
The keeper turns, eying me suspiciously. “Show me the jem, then I’ll tell you.”
That pisses me off. “How about, you tell me right now before I slice your throat and leave you to the dogs?”
I see the fear that flashes in his eyes, only for a second, then he frowns. “Fine, the King and Prince are going to be coming into Trinity for a parade, and rumor is; the Abators of Fleeton are going to raid them tonight, when they are first arriving.”
Hiding my surprise, I take the clear gem out of my boot, tossing it on the desk, and then turning away.
Little did the Shopkeeper know, I didn’t bring my blades today, just my dark red cloak that would conceal anything that I could’ve been carrying.
Next, I go to the market, paying for some bread for my dad. My mom died when I was 12, leaving me and my dad on our own, not that we didn’t have everything we needed; my dad owns a large stable, and breeds Thoroughbred’s.
He gave me my one and only, Beautiful Danger. She is a 16hh mare, with a sorrel and black spotted coat, called a chimera. She has a beautiful ‘star’ on her forehead, the star has branches of white fur that travels down the sides of her face. she also has two high stockings on her back legs, and two ankle socks on her front legs.
We call her Lona, which means ‘Beautiful’ in some language that I don’t know. The ‘Danger’ part of her name comes from her fiery attitude that she got from her mother, Sunset Spirit, my mother’s horse.
That attitude was something I loved, even though it can be unhelpful at times, she does scare anyone off who might want to steal her.
I head back to my house, planning out my route for tonight.
{About 4 Hours later}
I roll out of bed, sliding my Duel swords out from under it. Attaching the scabbard to my hips, I slide them into the scabbard. I throw my dark red cloak on and run out of the house, snatching my emergency stash of money as I went.
Running outside, I go straight to the barn where we keep the horses, Lona neighs a greeting, stomping her hoof on the ground as usual.
I tack her up quickly, throwing a blue riding blanket with tassels on her back, then her saddle, and a simple rope breast strap and leather bridle that I stole.
She follows me out, walking forward as I get on, taking off as I give her a little kick.
This’ll be fun. I think to myself as we gallop through the grass.
Then, I pull her to a stop when I see lights about 30-40ft away. Squinting, I make out the forms of two wagons, one elaborately designed and made for passengers, the other; elaborate, but simple in the way of design.
King and Prince are in the first one. Second wagon must be for food and supplies. I think to myself.
Sliding off of Lona, I set her reins down, ground tying her. Running forward, I hid behind a large boulder by the side of the road, about 8ft from the wagons.
Forcing myself to sit still, I watch as the carriage is attacked, the royal knights surrounding it; murdered.
They bring out the King and Prince, both blindfolded. The Royalty stumbles out of the wagon, then knelt before a person that I assumed was the Abator’s leader.
“Well, well, well. It seems we finally have the ‘Royalty’ bowing to their true rulers!” The leader shouts, the emphasis he puts on ‘Royalty’ makes it seem like it was disgusting or disgraceful.
The leader nods to a guy in a black robe, holding a long, thick sword. I knew what was about to happen, my hands flying to my swords, grabbing the hilt as I slid them out, preparing to attack.
Hands grab me from behind.
I struggle, but my assailant bends my hands until I have to drop my swords, putting a knife against my neck as he pushes me into the clearing.
The leader frowns for half a second, then beams. “Take the blindfolds off, let them see their hired savior.” In response, the Abators take the King and Princes’ blindfolds off, both royals turning to look at me, confusion sparking in their gazes.
The Leader notices their confusion. I decide to call the Leader Jack, because, I have no reason why.
“Take off his hood.” Jack orders.
My hood is pulled off of my head, exposing my long, strawberry-blonde hair and amber eyes. There was a collective gasp.
“What, you don’t think a girl can fight better than you?” I snarl.
“Well, Yes, but it was quite suprising that you made it this far.” Jack says, smiling.
“Kill the King first.” Jack orders.
“LONA!” I shout, stomping on the guy behind me’s foot, then elbowing him in the nose, loving the satisfying crunch.
Lona’s hoofbeats near closer, but not before I hear the slice of steel cutting through flesh and bone.
