Chapter 1-Sam

Peter quickly drove down the exit ramp to the airport. He quickly parked and ran inside not caring if he got a ticket. From looking up at the board he saw the last flight to Charlotte was minutes from boarding. I hope Sarah hasn’t left yet, he thought, Why am I such an idiot? He ran down the concord past the restaurants trying to avoid crashing into other passengers.

He was sweaty from perspiration breathing a sigh of relief seeing her about to get up to leave.

“Sarah!” he yelled.

“What? I thought?”

“I know,” he said. “I’m sorry. I don’t care about the distance. You are the best thing that has ever happen to me and I didn’t want to just let you go without telling you about how I felt about you first. Stay! Don’t go back to North Carolina!”

“I was hoping you’d say that,” she said, teary eyed.

She reached her hand up resting it on his cheek and leaned in giving him a deep kiss. He embraced her in return reciprocating feeling the mutual warmth between them.

“I love you,” he said, pulling away.

“I love you too,” she replied, smiling. “So what happens now?”

“I don’t know but it is a future we will decide on together.”

They wrapped their arms around each other leaving together in love.

As Elaine flipped the last page she wiped the tears forming in her eyes.

“What an ending!” she exclaimed.

“Did it do it for you?” Sam questioned smiling.

“Do it for me? My God, everyone will need a box of Kleenex reading this. When can I expect a sequel?”

“Elaine, you know I’ve always been a panster. I write it as it comes to me.”

“You know there are only a few male romance novelists that can write like you do.”

“That’s why I get paid the big bucks.”

“Let me know about what you are writing next before you bury yourself again in your writing den.”

“Will do,” he said, standing up to leave.

Sam left Elaine’s high rise office bracing the New York cold temperatures in December. The sky had opened where a gentle falling of snow hit the ground. He managed to flag a taxi and told the driver where he lived, a high rise apartment in Tribeca. As soon as he walked in the door he announced to Nicole, his girlfriend of three years that he was home.

However, as he kept walking into the living room he heard a squeaking sound that was coming from his master bedroom. He opened the door seeing a knelt muscular man’s sweaty back using his hands to grip Nicole’s hips on either side of her.

“What the hell?!”

They both turned their heads looking on in surprise. It was Sean, his personal trainer with Nicole kneeling doggy style in front of him.

“Oh my God, Sam,” Nicole said, quickly pulling out. “I didn’t know you would be home by now.”

“I’m so sorry, Sam,” Sean said, quickly sliding his boxers, pants, and shirt back on.

“Get out of here before I throw you out into the snow bare assed.”

Nicole climbed out of bed sliding her robe on walking into the bathroom to get herself cleaned up.

“What do you have to say for yourself?”

She left the bathroom remaining quiet walking into the kitchen filling up a glass of water.

“Nicole?”

“Sam, when was the last time we were intimate?”

Sam actually had to take a moment to think about it.

“See right there,” she said, pointing. “You should not have to think about it. You are more in love with writing your novels than you are with me.”

“But with my personal trainer?”

“Sam you know I have needs and he more than satisfies them.”

“I don’t want to hear it. I am staying overnight at a hotel and by the time I get back I want you and all of your stuff gone.”

“You want me gone, fine.”

Sam packed an overnight bag and grabbed the knob to the front door.

“Good bye Nicole,” he said, swinging the door slamming it shut behind him.
