The Beginning
Lily~
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
I hear my alarm immediately and jump out of bed anxious to start the day. It is my first day of senior year, and I could not be more happy that high school is almost over. I planned my outfit the day before like I did every year since I started kindergarten. I chose a fitted black crop top with skinny jeans and my favorite pair of black combat boots. I wet and brush out my curly brown hair and leave it down for it to dry. I brush my teeth, and I am ready to head out to school.
I have to wait for my boyfriend, Hunter, to come to pick me up since my parents are waiting until I graduate to buy me a car. I do not see my parents that much since my mom is a nurse who works overnights and my dad travels all over the world trying to close business deals. About five minutes after I am ready I hear Hunter beep the horn. I run downstairs, fling the door open, and jump in the car. His parents bought him a car to make up for their lack of love for him, his words not mine.
Hunter and I have been together since Freshman year of high school. I still remember the first time we met. I was walking to the office on the first day to get my schedule not knowing what to expect. Based on middle school, I was not popular but was also not really a nerd just somewhere in the middle so usually I remained invisible. So, after getting my schedule, I got to find my locker. When I get there, someone was already at the locker. I recognized him from middle school but he was one of the more popular boys. I did not know what to do but for some reason I felt compelled to approach the locker. As I am approaching I see the height difference even more. At five feet high six foot three height towered over me. I did not let this stop me though. He stopped talking to his friends, and looked at over to me. It felt like my world had stopped for a second. The summer did him justice. His dark curly hair made me want to run my hands through it. I had no clue why I had such an inappropriate thought. He smiled and said “Hey, what’s up?” I didn’t really know what to say so I responded softly “This is my locker.” He looked confused for a second but then he said “Hm, there must have been some kind of mistake, how about we go back to the office together?” My mouth felt like cotton, so all I did was nod, and the rest is history.
“Uh babe, you are spaced out again.” Hunter said interrupting my thoughts. I laugh and just sit back and enjoy the ride. When we arrived to school, you could see how full of life everyone was because it was the first day.
“Are you excited for the new year?!” I asked Hunter.
“Not really because I know I have to bring my A-game this year if I want to be picked up by a college.”
Hunter is an amazing basketball player, so I know he is going to make it to a D1 school and then the NBA. He does have his doubts in himself, but I am his number one fan, and I try to always make him feel good.
As we walk into the school many people are saying hi to Hunter and sometimes they acknowledge me. I tried to stay away from all of the popularity because I do not like the attention. Hunter understands my dislike so he does not try to push me to talk more or hang out with his friends.
Hunter and I have two very different schedules. I am taking all APs and he is taking all regular classes. He likes to focus more on his athletics versus his academics. He still gets all A’s and has the time to perfect his craft. We wont see each other again until lunch, so he gives me a kiss and heads off to his first period.
My first class is AP physics. Yay…
“Today we will not start with names and an interesting fact because I think you all already know enough about each other.” Ms. Lynch starts off the class.
She is right about that. We live in a small town in rural Minnesota, so everyone knows everyone. I am also glad that I do not have to say anything in front of the class because it makes me very anxious. Every time a teacher tells us we have to talk out loud, I have to plan everything I am going to say.
“We will be starting with projectile motion.” Ms. Lynch continues. For the next 45 minutes we go over the many ways to figure out the speed of a ball at many different positions. Physics is not that bad but not really my forte, but I do love science. My goal is to become a pathologist, and I will do anything to get there.
The day flies by and then I am reacquainted with Hunter. We sit together during lunch, and while he talks to everyone else at the table, I sit quietly and eat my food. When the topic changes to a back to school party I listened more intently. I knew that Hunter loved parties and he would want me to go with him. I loathe parties, but it probably would not be the worst thing.
“Yeah bro, I’ll go and I am pretty sure Lily will come too. Right Lily?” Even though I would rather do homework and watch Criminal Minds instead I agree. Guess I am going to a party.
I finish the day without anything significant happening, and I meet up with Hunter after my last class so we can go to my house and hang out and do homework.
