Maskoona: The Queen of Jinn

Summary

Every request for directions to the haunted palace comes back with the same response: “You donʼt need directions...it finds you.” The only fairy tales or rather “jinn-tales” bedtime type of stories to come out of the Middle East are hundreds of years old. Well, it was about time for a new one. Part folklore, part philosophy, part myth, and part truth, “Maskoona: The Queen of the Jinn" is based on a real haunted palace in the UAE. The author’s visit to the palace left her with questions and doubts that translated into this bedtime philosophical fable-like tale of friendship, loneliness, courage and love. Readers will travel to 1882, and then back to the present, on a journey of self discovery, mystery and myths. Synopsis: On a typical lazy Friday afternoon, Fahd, Fares, Sami and Nour decide to investigate rumors about a haunted palace just a 100 Kilometers away from their homes. They wanted a ‘scary story’ to tell their friends later. Little did the teenagers know that this trip would change their lives forever as they come face to face with something far more frightening than a few mischievous Jinn. A journey through time, and a test of self, the Palace unlocks our group’s inner most secrets as they explore the former home of a prince and the current residing place of a “Queen of the night.”

Prologue

Prologue. To this day I am still not sure whether I know what really happened. All I know is that what I am about to share is the whole truth as I remember it and how others remember it, even if I doubt my own truth of it. But the scar on my left hand makes it difficult to pretend it didnʼt happen.
