It was the year of 1991 and Evelyn Desmond was standing next to the barrier, terrified to go through. Evelyn had been an orphan since she was 2 years old, so she didn't have anyone there with her, teaching her how to go through or hugging and kissing her goodbye. "Excuse me darling." she heard a kind voice behind her say, "Are you going to go?" She turned around to see a kind looking woman with fiery red hair standing a few feet away with four boys with the same red hair behind her, two of which looked to be identical twins, a boy who looked to be her age and a boy who acted as though he was too good to be there. "U-uhm, yes, but I'm not sure how, I'm sorry." She apologized quickly, "Oh no worries deary, it's Ron's first year here as well, we can show you how if you like?" "Yes, that would be appreciated, thank you."
As the two boys mocked the woman who had introduced herself as Molly, finally ran in behind their older brother, Ron's turn came up, and he was absolutely terrified by the looks of it. A boy who had introduced himself as Harry Potter, got ready to go after Ron, Evelyn felt her anxiety spike, after him, she would be running in as well. She worried she wouldn't be able to cross the barrier, but after Harry ran in, she had no choice but to run in, so she waited a few seconds and ran.
She expected the barrier to just hold up, and that her cart was going to bounce off as it would a normal wall, but after she felt no impact, she opened her eyes, and was amazed. There were so many people there with their families, everyone had their carts and were hugging their parents, aunts, uncles, siblings, and grandparent's goodbye, telling them to write and to stay safe until they came back in December. She automatically felt an overwhelming wave of loneliness overtake her, since she had no parent or guardian.
Ron walked over to her, "Hello, I never got your name, I'm Ron Weasley." he said, obviously confident in his family and himself, "I-I'm Evelyn, Evelyn Desmond." she stuttered out, Evelyn had never been confident or outgoing, she always stayed in the safe confines of her mind or her music, good thing she remembered to download her playlists onto her MP3 player, and bring 20 packs of batteries, or she'd find herself losing it. Her music was the only thing that kept her mind from wandering elsewhere. Into her own world of thoughts and insecurities. She realized she was thinking and wasn't even talking, "Are you alright?" she heard Ron ask. "Yes, yes, I'm fine, I just tend to get lost in thought sorry." "Oh, no need to apologize, it's quite al-" Ron was cut off by a man yelling, "All aboard!" "We better get going then." Evelyn said with a shy smile, "Yeah, we'd better."
After putting their luggage away, Ron and Evelyn went and sat down in an empty compartment and started talking. Not long after, a young boy opened the door, Evelyn recognized him. "I'm sorry, but is this seat taken? Everywhere else is full." Evelyn simply gave him a small smile, and motioned for him to sit down, after introductions were made, and Evelyn and Ron found out they were talking to Harry Potter, the trolley came by, "Hello young ones." the kind woman said, "Care for something from the trolley?" Evelyn was about to decline, since she was hardly able to pay for her school necessities, but her stomach rumbling betrayed her, Ron, and Harry simply laughed a bit, "I don't have any money, and my mum gave me a sandwich, I should be good." But anyone could see Ron looking at the sweets with longing, "We'll take the lot." Harry said, pulling out a pouch filled with galleons, knuts and sickles, simply handing over quite a few galleons, before the women handed them the sweets.
While they were eating talking and laughing, a bushy haired girl came in, "Have any of you seen a frog named Trevor? Neville, a boy I just met, can't seem to find him." "No, we haven't seen anything, where is he? I'll help look." Evelyn said, "I believe he's over at the lavatories, seeing if he can find Trevor." "Okay, Ron, do you mind showing me the magic later?" Evelyn said to Ron, "No, not at all. See you around Evelyn." "See you." "You're doing magic, are you? Well, let's see it then." She heard the bushy haired girl say before going to help look.
Going towards the lavatories, she saw a boy, he was a tad chubby and had deep brown hair, he was crouched down under a seat, it looked like he was looking for something. She figured it was the boy that girl had been speaking of. Neville was his name? "E-excuse me?" Evelyn stuttered quietly, startling the boy, causing him to jump and hit his head. "Oh, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to startle you, I wanted to help you look, and- oh god I don't even know if you're the boy that odd girl was speaking of and-" "Hey! One thing at a time! I can only process so much." he said with a small laugh, "His smile is cute." Evelyn thought to herself, shaking her head, to shake the thought, she had just met the boy!
"A-are you N-Neville?" She said the name with a question, not sure if it was correct or not. "Yes, that would be me, I'm Neville, Neville Longbottom. Who might you be?" He asked, "Oh, right. Silly me, my name is Evelyn Desmond." she said, holding out her hand, he took it and shook it, then he seemed to realize something. "Wait, Desmond?" He asked, "Yes?" Evelyn replied, nervous that he didn't like her, "Oh no, sorry, I didn't mean to frighten you." he said, a slight pink tint coming to his cheeks, "It's just that my parents mentioned the Desmonds before, apparently they all went to school together, such a shame they passed on." "Yes, it is, well, would you like help finding Trevor?" "Oh yes please!"
