Chapter 1

I tossed and turned in my bed whiles pulling the covers up, attempting to conceal my face from the harsh sunlight that was currently peaking in through my blinds. Facing the opposite direction, I was now content that I'd found the perfect spot to prevent the bright light from interrupting my sleep.

Just as I was about to drift off into another peaceful slumber ;my covers were suddenly snatched off and the cool air viciously attacked my skin.

"Ughhh why did you have to do that asshole?" I complained.

"Well Good morning to you to sunshine." My best friend M stated sarcastically.

"Why are you up so early M?" I grumbled under my breath, whiles rubbing the sleep out my eyes.

"I feel like I'm starving Akila, and why do you always sleep in so late? " He whined.

"I'm up now, aren't I ? Give me a minute" I replied sitting up on the bed

After minutes of staring into space, I concluded that it was best to get the day started; I got up stretched and head towards the bathroom.

I steered clear of the mirror, because I knew the sight that awaited me was horrendous and I don't need that type of negativity first thing in the morning. I grabbed my toothbrush applied toothpaste and began to brush my teeth. Suddenly, a knock came from my room door.

"Come in" I called out

"Goodmorning Akila." my mom greeted

"Mornin' mom." I murmured

"Who were you talking to?" She asked.

Every morning was the same as the repeated words were spoken.

"M" I replied " as always."

She sighed and smiled wearily at me.

"Yes, as always" She said closing the door.

"Yall just get more awkward everyday huh?" He joked handing me the mouthwash.

"It's not my fault that no one can see you." I expressed

"You can see me.... you're someone." he stated in an obvious tone.

I rolled my eyes and gargled the mouthwash.

Finally done with my hygiene, I exit my room with M hot on my heels. As I arrived to the dining room my dad smiled greeting me. Great! another early bird.

"Goodmorning sweetheart." He said in his usual chirpy voice.

"Morning Dad" I responded.

"Where's M today?" He asked

"Next to me, of course." I replied

My mom then placed 2 plates of eggs, bacon and toast with a single bowl of rice on the table per M's request. I collected the breakfast and made a bee line back to our room.

"M catch the door would you!"

"Sure thing." He said slamming the door behind him.

I handed M his plate and began eating.

"Your mama's food is always good. But she needs to work on her rice, like I'm never able to pick it up with my chapsticks."

"That's because its different from Asian rice dumb dumb." I said stating the obvious.

"No shit dumbass." He mumbled

"I'm not the dumbass, you are." I shot back

"You know what.. whatever I'll put these in the kitchen." He said collecting the dishes.

Satisfied, I made my way back in to the bathroom; connected my phone to the speakers, and allowed the songs from my favorite playlist to play on shuffle. Eventually, stripping the clothes from my body and stepping in the shower preparing for my mini concert.

About 40 minutes later I stepped out. I secured my towel around my body, and headed back into my room where I caught M rummaging through my underclothes drawer.

"What are you doing M?!" I screamed.

"Looking for goodies Akila, Damn! Are these bloomers?" he snickered holding up a pair of my bigger than usual panties.

"Why do you own so much unstimulating underwear?" He questioned now pulling out one of my plain baby blue underwear.

"Get out of my drawer!" I shouted, shoving him aside.

"You're no fun Akila." He pouted slyly, I could see the smirk forming on the corner of his lips.

"Whatever M, just turn around." I huffed.

"I'm already turned" he answered smugly with his back facing me.

I threw on an oversized tee shirt, and a pair of shorts. Now standing before my mirror I slid off my bonnet, my type 4 hair peaking out the sides. I examined my appearance, taking notice of my jet black hair which still resided in the twists that I did the previous night. Staring back at my reflection. I noticed that my under eye bags were slightly puffy; which was the aftermath of me being up hours the night before strolling through twitter and conversing with M about any and everything. I reached down and grabbed my stomach pudge.

"Damn I'm getting fatter" I mumbled.

"Cause you're always eating" M jeered.

I stale faced him "Stay in a little boy's place M" I replied.

"I'm a man" he stated confidently.

"For all I know, you're just a figment of my imagination."
