I’ve landed the job of a lifetime. I’m still in complete shock that it’s even happening to me. I’m just a small town girl who followed her dreams to the big city to see if I could make it big. I’m sure glad I did. The day I was called into Mr. Bennett’s office is one I will never forget.
My hands were clammy with nerves. My knees felt shaky as I sat down in the big and smooth leather seat. The seat fit perfectly in front of the desk in front of me as I waited. Crossing my legs in front of me. Looking outside to see the beautiful sky view from Mr. Bennett’s office. Anxiously awaiting for the news I have been waiting for.
His office is massive with wooden accents. A enormous cherry wood coloured desk with very elegant taste. Big portraits of past modelling shoots. Lavish spots where they were shot with a very gorgeous looking man in each one. His body lean, but toned. His skin shone a light and glistening tan. Dirty blonde hair that’s either combed in place or tousled. Abs that look chiseled and to die for. My mouth waters at just the sight of him. Mr. Bennett is an exquisite looking man.
Suddenly, there’s a knock at the door. Breaking me from my thoughts as I rise and straighten my cute short dress that cuts off at the knees. I chose purple to seem bright and cheerful. Mr. Bennett’s manager steps into the office. His suit looking expensive and his expression full of business.
“Becca, we meet again.” Mr. Bennett’s manager said as he reaches out his hand to shake mine. I keep my handshake firm as I close my hand around his.
“Yes, so nice to see you again, sir.” I said.
“Call me, Merlin.” He said as he smiled.
I smile as we break the handshake and he gestures for me to have a seat. I sit and try not to play with my hands. A nervous habit I picked up along the years. Merlin takes a seat behind the desk. It’s silent for a moment while Merlin gathers some paperwork in front of him that had been neatly laid out. He looks up at me overtop of his thin glasses. His face looking serious.
“So, I called you here because you are everything we’re looking for. When can you start?” Merlin said.
“Really?” I said smiling. Trying to hide my excitement as I still want to remain professional. “I got the job?”
“Yes. You got the job.” Merlin says as he stands and starts to walk towards the office door. “Now, don’t keep me waiting. I asked you a question. We don’t have time for slack around here. Time is money and money is time.”
“Oh, yes, sir. I understand. I can start whenever you need me.” I said.
“Remember, my name’s Merlin.” He said sternly as he shook his head. “Now, I don’t want to keep repeating myself.”
“Yes, Merlin. I apologize. Thank you so much for this opportunity. You won’t regret it.” I said.
“I would currently hope not.” Merlin said as he opened the door. “I will see you bright and early tomorrow morning then.”
I’m unsure if that’s a question or not, but I don’t care as I smiled at the thought. I can start tomorrow. Tomorrow I get to photograph and shoot the famous Mr. Grant Bennett. “Yes, I will be here.”
Merlin nods in acknowledgement and leaves as I stare bewildered after him. He’s quite the odd man and I’m realizing not to get on his bad side. If I do, I sense there will be trouble.
I left the office in quite a hurry. Looking around at everything as I go. Feeling excitement set in and all the anxiety I felt wash away. Feeling proud of myself for not giving up and following my dream.
I headed towards home through the busy city streets. I can pretty much walk everywhere as I decided to live close to the city core. Just in case something like this were to happen and it finally has. I smile to myself as l look around at the hustle and bustle of the city streets. People walking, riding bikes and traffic jams backed up down the streets. I have a car, but walking is preferred around the likes of here. I reach my tall apartment building and take the elevator up towards my floor. I’m on the tenth and the view is my favourite part.
I place my purse and keys on the side table. Walking towards the kitchen to make myself a fresh pot of coffee. Opening my cabinet and pulling out a Vodka bottle.
“I deserve a bit of celebration if I do say so myself.” I say as I speak out proudly. Pouring just a bit into my hot coffee. Blowing at the cup and seeing the steam rise up overtop of the rim.
“Mm mm...” I say as I take the first sip. I proceed towards my balcony that over looks the street. I lean against the rail as I relax and look out at the sight before me.
It’s such a beautiful view of the city. It’s something new for me as I grew up in the small town of Walton. A small town is nice, but the city is just what I need. My absolute dream is to own a country house. Some place that’s quiet and private. Some place to call my own.
One day I will have it and this career is everything I need to make that happen. It’s everything I’ve been working towards. I need to do everything possible to make this work as my future depends on it. I’m single, independent and will succeed. No matter what. The sky’s the limit and I’m going to reach for it. I’m making my dreams come true and Mr. Grant Bennett will help me. Even if he doesn’t know it.
