"Dad, Jack and I are going for a walk, and meeting up with Quinn and Leo!" Erin yelled to her father, he gave her a thumbs up and a smile.
"Be home at 7, honey." He told her, Jack pulled Erin out the door before she could reply.
"Can we go to the woods? I heard there is a abandoned treehouse." Jack asked, he was using is puppy eyes she couldn't say no to.
"Sure but we have to be fast, we only have an hour."
They went to their friends house, and had them join the walk.
They walked into the the nearby woods, they saw nothing out of the ordinary. Until..
"Oh my God! Guys, look!" Quinn said stopping in her tracks. She had stopped by what looked to be a pile of sticks but with a closer view, the kids saw that those weren't sticks.
They were rotting skin and bones. A skull, two arms, a leg, and some ribs. The spine, a foot and part of the jaw, is missing. And is no where in sight.
"Holy crap, Quinny. Call the cops, I'll call the parents." Erin said, the boys were looking at the bones, horror clear in their eyes. Erin moved the boys away from the bones, calling parents.
Erin called her dad, telling him to come to the woods, then called Mrs. Madelaine & Mrs. Vanessa Morgan.
Quinn called 911 and said they'd be there in 5 minutes, parents saying they are on their way.
A few minutes of just looking at the bones, the police, FBI, and the kids parents showed up
"Stand back. We spoke to your parents, they are waiting for you by the road." A policeman told them, the kids ran to the road.
"MOMS!" "DAD!"
They all got pulled into a big hug, Leo and Jack were almost crying, but Quinn and Erin, they had other thoughts on their mind.
Like who was that? Why were the bones just left there? Who could have done this.
Their thoughts soon interrupted by a police man, he was asking them questions about what they know.
"We were going on a walk, exploring. And when we got here we thought they were sticks but then found out they were bones." Erin told the cop.
"Erin.. I'm scared, who could this be?" Quinn asked her best friend. "Its so small, like the boys size."
"Quinny, it'll be okay. We won't get in trouble.. just we can't mention this to others." Erin hugged her friend. "Jacky, Leo. No telling anyone about this."
"Okay.."
••• a week later •••
"Mr. Jacob Nelson. Can I speak to your children about what happened October 6th?"
"Of course, sir. Please come in. Should I get the other children that were there?" Jacob asked.
"Uh.. please do, that would help us save time." Jacob picked up his phone and called the Morgan's.
•••
Soon the Morgan family was inside the house, the adults in the kitchen talking and, all of the kids were sitting in the living room, waiting to be spoken too.
Quinn and Erin were laying on the small couch, Quinn laying her head on Erin's chest. Quinn sobbed quietly, trying to not freak out. The boys, Leo and Jack, sat on the floor in front of their sisters.
"Okay, I am agent Smith, and this is Anthropologist Dr. Huntington, we just want to know exactly what happened, the day you found the bones. Then we will try to answer whatever questions you may have." The Agent Smith informed the kids.
"We were going on a walk, like normal," Erin started first. She held onto Quinn's hand.
"Most walks Leo and Quinn join Jack and I. That day, Jack said we should go walk in the woods, and we know around those woods. We go there a lot." The FBI agent wrote somethings down on a notepad. His pencil making a horrid sound as he pressed down on the paper.
"When we got to the woods, we went on our normal path, the one in the middle. In a clearing, we thought we saw a pile of sticks. From the distance they looked like they were burnt but when we g-got c-close.." Quinn sobbed towards the end. Erin hugged her tightly, trying to comfort her. She kissed her best friends head, trying her best to help calm her down.
The two best friends were laying down still, but now Quinn was curled into a ball her face tucked in Erin's neck. Sobs softly shook her small body.
"Do you boys have anything else to tell me and Dr. Huntington." Agent Smith asked the 11 and 10 year old.
"No, sir. We just were walking and found them, like they said." Leo said, looking down.
"Okay, thank you. All of you, if you find anything out," He handed Quinn and Erin both a small card with his number and Dr. Huntington's number on it.
•••
"Mr. Nelson, can Leo and I stay the night?" "Please dad, can they?" Quinn and Erin begged.
"Sure, but you can't make to much noise, understand me, girls?"
"Yes, sir." They said in unison.
