The Gifted Girl

Ruby the dragon soared through the skies, above the city of Haven, it's dazzling skyscrapers shone over the green hills that surrounded it.

"Don't worry, Clara" The dragon giggled. "We're not flying all the way to the city of Inchaya" Ruby smiled.

"Aw... why not?" Clara asked, as she held on tight to Ruby, who was around the same size as herself, without the wings. "It'd be a fun journey" She laughed.

"It's over 15,000 miles to Inchaya, across the vast ocean that separates the continent of Aodhan and the continent of Illarya, where Inchaya is located" Ruby explained. "Didn't you learn geography?" She smiled.

"I tried, but I only got around to learning the settlements on Aodhan" Clara replied.

"It's okay" Ruby nodded. "We're going to the Capital City, Sanctuary, to catch an airjet to Inchaya. That will get us there in about five hours" She continued. Clara smiled and gazed down at the land below.

Eventually, they arrived at the air terminal in the city of Sanctuary. Clara made note that most people didn't seem to take notice of the appearance of Ruby, aside from a few toddlers at a fast food cafe in the departures lounge.

As Clara and Ruby made their way to the Airjet gateway, Clara fetched the tickets from a satchel on Ruby's saddle.

"Do we just show these, or scan them?" Clara asked, looking slightly nervous.

"Don't panic, Clara, I'm here" Ruby nodded as she held Clara's hand.

"I know, it's just I've never been somewhere with so many people. The most people I saw was when I went to the nearby town, down the road from our forest cabin, for school" Clara explained.

"Just take it one step at a time" Ruby nodded. As the two were about to board, the ticketmaster stopped them.

"Is there a problem, Sir?" Ruby asked.

"Sorry, we have a VIP boarding, please wait a moment" The ticketmaster nodded, as the put a small rope between the queue and the ticket desk. Chatter erupted as curious bystanders began gossiping.

"Who is it?" One voice said.

"I hear she's the Gifted Heiress to the Rosefall Estate" Another voice replied. Clara looked to the left, where an area had been cordoned off, as she watched, she saw a young woman, who was a similar age to her, making her way toward the departure gate, she had long auburn hair and stylish clothes.

As she passed Ruby and Clara, she glanced at Clara, before making her way aboard the airjet. Clara's heart jumped, as time seemed to slow. The ticketmaster untied the rope and reopened the gate.

"Well that was a lot of kerfuffle for nothing" Ruby shrugged.

"She was... pretty" Clara nodded.

"Uh, sure" Ruby shrugged. "Let's just get on board" She smiled, as she flashed the tickets to the ticketmaster before boarding the Airjet.

The Airjet was similar to the airships of old, but sleeker, and with jet engines that exceeded the sound barrier.

An attendant guided Ruby to a special seat, prepared for her, and Clara took her place next to Ruby.

"Is the flight bumpy?" Clara asked, as she fastened herself in. Ruby shrugged and smirked.

"It's my first time aboard, I like to fly between the continents myself usually" She chuckled.

"Huh..." Clara raised her eyebrow.

"I wasn't gonna fly across with you on my back" Ruby shrugged.

"Fair enough I guess" Clara chuckled. A few minutes passed, before everyone had taken their seats. The Airjet slowly left the gate, before rising into the air, far above the city of Sanctuary. Then, with a boom, it disappeared into the horizon.
