Prologue
One week after defeating the Sith Darth Maul Obi-Wan Kenobi and a 9 year old Anakin Skywalker sit in a hospital next to a bed. The bed contains Qui-Gon Jinn the Jedi Master of Obi-Wan and found the man that found Anakin the boy Qui-Gon believes is the ‘Chosen One’ the one that will bring balance to the Force. As Obi-Wan and Anakin sit there Qui-Gon starts waking up and the movements gets the attention of Obi-Wan who says “Master? can you hear me?”
Qui-Gon’s eyes slowly open to the smiles of Anakin and Kenobi and slowly sitting up with the aid of his current Padawan the Jedi Master said “Yes Obi-Wan I can hear you and Anakin I am glad you two are here.”
In reply young Anakin said “We haven’t left Mister Qui-Gon Sir and we took turns to sleep or get food and drinks while the other waited with you.”
Obi-Wan added “how are you feeling Master?”
“Like I was hit by a hover train on Coruscant” Qui-Gon said smiling softly
Obi-Wan turn slighty to Anakin and said “Anakin can you let me talk to Obi-Wan quickly?”
Anakin looked at Qui-Gon who nodded and in reply Anakin nodded in replay and said “I will get something to eat.”
Qui-Gon looked at Obi-Wan and asked “everything ok my friend?”
“If you need me to stop let me know Master, it’s about what you said about what you said about me being ready for the trials.” “I have been thinking about what you said and how sure you sound and the more I have thought about it the more I agree with you I am ready for the trials and if you really do believe the boy is The Chosen One I will support you when we go to the Council next.” Obi-Wan said confidently
Qui-Gon smiled and said “I was being honest to the Council Obi-Wan there is not much left for me to teach you and I am so proud of you, you are going to be a great Jedi but remember you can still come to me at anytime.”
Obi-Wan smiled and said “Thank you Master, but what if the Council still turns down your request to train the boy?”
“I am sure they will agree and it won’t come to that Obi-Wan.” Qui-Gon said calmly.
Just then Anakin walked and said “Am I to early?”
Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan laughed and Obi-Wan pointed to Anakin’s seat which Anakin sat in.
A week later Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Anakin stood in front of the Jedi Council.
Yoda was the first to speak “happy to see you recovered Master Jinn we are.”
Qui-Gon bowed and said “thank you Master Yoda. I have something I wish to discuss with the Council. As I explained to the Council before the mission to Naboo I asked to train young Anakin Skywalker and I am aware that currently Obi-Wan is my Padawan but Masters there is nothing else I can teach Obi-Wan he is ready for the trials Masters and there is no better proof for that than the way he forced the Sith Lord that injured me down the shaft leading to his death therefore saving himself Anakin and me. Therefore I ask that Obi-Wan be eligible for the try outs and in his place I would like to take on Anakin as my new Padawan.”
Master Mace Windu spoke, “the actions and outcome of Padawan Kenobi’s fight with the Sith is impressive there is no doubt that your current Padawan has become very strong not only in the force but also in his abilities with a Lightsaber but just putting one Padawan through and giving you another one is not how this works Master Jinn.”
Yoda spoke again, “Agree with you normally I would Master Windu and a strong point you make but a normal situation this is not and strong in the Dark Side this Sith was an incredible achievement this was for young Kenobi. Believe Master Jinn I do, pointless to delay Obi-Wan’s trials and continue as a Padawan it would be. However to old young Skywalker is.”
There was quiet in the Council Chamber which was interrupted by a frustrated Qui-Gon who said “How can you not see that Anakin is the chosen one and how he is the key to bring balance to the force.”
“To late for him it is” Yoda said looking from Qui-Gon to Anakin and back again.
Qui-Gon sighed and said “in that case I will take the boy and train him myself. I am sorry Masters but I step down as a Jedi Master and from the Council.” With that Qui-Gon turned to Obi-Wan and whispered “I am so proud of you Obi-Wan you are going to be a great Jedi.” then he and Anakin were gone replaced but another boy about Anakin’s age.
With a sad smile Yoda said “come in young Nickolas, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi.”
The boy named Nickolas walked in and stood with Master Kenobi but slightly away from them and while Master Windu continue to look at Nickolas Yoda continued, “Sadly gone is Master Qui-Gon but continue we must.”
Obi-Wan looked over at a young boy about Anakin’s age as Yoda said “Obi-Wan more to say do you?”
“What is going to happen to the young boy in the corner Masters if I remember correctly most if not all current Masters have Padawans.” Obi-Wan replied
Surprised that they hadn’t realized the boys arrival Yoda’s ears lifted as he said “early he is sneak in when Qui-Gon and Anakin left he must have, take him as my Padawan I will.”
“But Master Yoda with all due respect you have all the youngling to look after.” Obi-Wan said
Yoda looked at the boy then back at Obi-Wan and before saying “ready are you to take a Padawan so early hmm?”
Obi-Wan looked at the boy who was looking at his feet then he looked at Yoda who gave him a slight nod and smile and with that said “yes Masters I’m ready.”
Yoda turned to the boy and said ” Nickolas Vercet, come and join Obi-Wan in the center you shall.”
Nickolas walked over silently and looked at Yoda who said “your Master Jedi Kenobi will be, trust him you can and help you to become a great Jedi he will.”
Nickolas gave a small smile and bowed with Obi-Wan and left after Yoda gave permission.
Outside the Council Chamber doors Qui-Gon said “hello Nickolas you remember Anakin and I am Qui-Gon Jinn I taught Obi-Wan all I know you will be in the best of hands I am sorry our meet has to be so short.”
Obi-Wan looked at Anakin and then Qui-Gon and said “you waited Master?”
Qui-Gon chuckled and replied by saying “couldn’t help the curiosity.”
Meanwhile back in the Council Chamber Mace turned to Yoda before saying “Did you sense then feeling coming from Nickolas?”
“Troubled the boy is Master Windu, a challenge he will be for Obi-Wan, keep a close eye on Nickolas we should, help from you Master Windu I believe Obi-Wan may need as balance I believe his new Padawan will need to learn and find, teach this you are able to.
“Wouldn’t it make more sense for Kenobi to go to Qui-Gon Master?” Mace replied slightly confused.
“Master Jinn Anakin he has ad here they are not, left they have therefore busy he will be, easier for Kenobi to approach you it will be, many long and troubling nights I fear young Vercet will have and effect his mood and emotions this will, Master Windu mastered both the light and dark you have and great help to both Nickolas and Obi-Wan you will be, do what I can also I will.”
The first 3 months of Nickolas’s time as Obi-Wan’s Padawan went well in fact Nickolas was excelling but as the months turned into years Obi-Wan noticed that Nickolas’s emotions and temper was getting the better of him to the point where Nickolas was lashing out and having violent nightmares. Obi-Wan managed to contacted Qui-Gon for advice and after Qui-Gon helped all he could he suggested that Obi-Wan go to Mace Windu and since then Nickolas spent time between Obi-Wan and learning how to control and understand his emotions, temper and also to find balance within himself and slowly Nickolas started returning to the path of balance.
