Comets

Comets

One day, something so magical fell from the sky and all of the people they gathered to try to catch it. The object took form into a small heart-shaped stone. The villagers weren’t sure what they were to do with these tiny stones. The smoke coming off of them hinted at the potential danger surrounding them. Still, a one little boy picked up a stone. He jumped back, shivering.

“It’s cold!” he yelped. However, the visitors found themselves more fascinated with what happened after the boy touched the stone. The hazy white smoke arose from the smooth surface and started to take shape. It opened its light blue eyes.

“What is that?” one of the villagers asked. The smoke faded away, revealing a small boy. When he opened his mouth, he let a high-pitched squeak. At first, the villagers didn’t know what to make of this peculiar child. He really came out of that tiny stone that fell from the sky? Before they knew it, he wasn’t the only one.

For a whole year, more mysterious children fell from the sky in form of tiny cold white stones. But where did they come from? The earliest theory traces back to Heaven.

Angels were making summer cookies for the festival that year. This was the first time that baby angels were allowed to do the big jobs. Usually, they just stayed in their rooms and made the paper decorations. Last month, the little angels wanted to do something different.

“Please let us help you out?” they pleaded. “You always get all of the fun jobs.” Michael nervously bit his lower lip.

“But you guys are so tiny…” he said.

“Please?” they asked.

Michael dropped his shoulders. “Fine.” The little angels flew around, singing. They took off before Michael could say a word.

---------

The little angels took off for the kitchen. They barged in and took over with the cooking. Mi-chan held up her hand and whistled loud enough to break glass. The six little angels paused and turned their heads. Mi-chan put her hands on her hips.

“I understand you want to help me,” she said. “But you are going about this the wrong way.” Mi-chan waved her hand in the air and a small chart formed out of clouds and air.

“Now,” she said. “Listen closely as I give you tasks to execute this. We are baking cookies for the festival. This has to be done properly or else we will have a mess on our hands. Are you following me so far?”

“Yes,” the little angels said.

“Good,” Mi-chan said. Once she broke down the different tasks, everyone got to work. However, while they were cooking, one of the angels accidentally knocked over an open jar of sugar crystals.

“Uh-oh,” he said as the crystals flew down to earth. The angel pretended that nothing happened and went back to work. Those little flakes of crystals became heart-shaped stones and landed in the living world.

--------

So what became of those children from the sky? Well, turns out they were well-welcomed by the villagers. Some of them were even adopted by them. The “comet children” grew quickly into well-adjusted adults. But then, they just strangely disappeared in one year’s time. There was no given explanation. They all just up and vanished without a trace.

To this day, many questions linger out about those comet children. Why did they come to the living world in the first place? Who sent them? Where were they now? No matter how many times or ways these questions were asked, no one could come up with a reasonable answer. In the end, the villagers found themselves okay with this. Even though they went back to their daily lives, the people never forgot about those comet children.

Some even wished that there would be a chance to see them again someday.
