Two different worlds
For once in a land far away, in a time well forgotten, was a village. It was a simple, quaint village where the habitants lived in peace and harmony. There was a neighboring kingdom with a castle and a monarchy, but there in that little village was none of that. They were not about the monarchy, they lived without the hassle of having to pay ‘the laws of the land’ or having to worry about the queen taking their children away. You see, the Queen truly was a lovely woman, but she was honestly scared of change. Anytime that there was someone with even the slightest abnormality she would have a fit! She would take them away and make them live outside of the kingdom and banished anyone who lived within the safety of the walls that divided the monarchy from the rest of the world. Which brings us back to the village. That’s where the (find another word for this) not normal people resided. The protagonist of this story just so happens to be a lovely young maid who lives in one of the cottages.
She was the most beautiful girl in the village, not that all the others were unattractive because that certainly isn’t the case! Everyone in the village was perfect in their own peculiar way, but this young lady just stands out with her outstanding beauty. She was also extraordinarily kind. This is why she was banished, the queen assumed she had ulterior motives about why she was being so nice to all that she met. Everyone in the village came to her when they needed a good listener or just a shoulder to cry on, but she never had anyone to do the same to her. She felt that no one needed to worry about her problems, so she always kept them hidden away in the deepest depths of her soul. She knew that one day the burning embers inside her would one day burst into a raging fire but she truly just ignored it to make everyone happy.
On one fateful day, the maid was tending to her flower garden, roses to be exact, when suddenly she heard a sound. It sounded like a gasp mixed with a crunch. She grew quiet and slowly looked around. When she saw nothing, she continued to finish watering her beautiful bouquet. The noise never came back. Not that day, anyways. Later that night she was sweeping the floors of her home when she remembered the noise. She continued to ponder on what it could’ve been for the rest of the night.
The next morning the same sound from last night aroused her from her deep slumber. There was no gasp, but definitely a crunch. She immediately went to her window and saw a flash of bright blue dash around the corner. She ran outside and turned the corner and saw a young lady, wearing a bright blue dress. It wasn’t just any young lady, she was the most gorgeous person that the maid had ever laid eyes on in her entire life, though she looked vaguely familiar.
“Hello,” The maid said in a soft tender voice. She wanted to know more about this beautiful creature standing in front of her. “I’m Sonya. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” the maid finished, and extended her hand. Which the woman took and shook. The lady was mesmerized by the maid, she was in a trance and couldn’t shake it.
“Oh hello- I’m sorry that I was- I apologize for lurking around your home. I truly am, I just saw you on my walk yesterday and thought you were- well I wanted to know more about you. You’ve spiked my curiosity, Sonya. That’s a beautiful name, as well. I’m Amelia, by the way…” The lady fumbled with her words, how could a woman make Amelia feel this way? It was different for Amelia, but a good kind of different. A scary kind of different. The lovely Sonya, of course, has always known her attraction to women, from a very young age she knew that women were the most amazing thing that the universe ever created.
“It’s alright, honest. Would you like to come in and possibly have some tea with me?” Sonya asked, her voice was always very gentle and kind, which you could have probably expected. Amelia was taken aback by her kindness.
“Yes, yes please. That would be truly delightful, thank you.” Amelia was feeling even more nervous about going into her house, she was for certain that once she had spent more time with this marvelous person, she would definitely never ever be the same person she used to be. Pretended to be.
They walked through her wooden door, which made way to the living area. Since it was a cottage it wasn’t very large, but the maid tried her hardest to make it as much like her as she could. There were flowers everywhere, the color scheme was white, pink, light blue, and brown. It had so much natural light, which quite literally lit the place up.
“Wow! You’re home is so lovely!” Amelia gushed, looking around in excitement. Her home was dark and never really felt like home to her. This place though, made her feel something she never had before. A place of belonging.
“Why thank you, it’s not much but it’s home for me. You’re welcome to stop by anytime you would like. If you want to that is,” Sonya added the last part as an afterthought, she thought maybe Amelia didn’t want to see her after this. The thought made her sad.
“Really? That would be magnificent!” The young lady said, her excitement clearly shining through, even though she attempted to be calm.
They made their way into her quaint little kitchen
“What type of tea would you prefer, love?” Sonya quizzed. She was excited to learn so much about her that she couldn’t sit still. Amelia's heart lurched at the use of the word ‘love’.
For the rest of that morning they sipped tea and shared stories. Shared laughs and shared tears. Both not realizing that they were falling deeper and deeper into the void.
It had just became noon and Amelia started to panic,
“I apologize, I must leave. My mother will have my head. I must go, I will see you soon, I promise.” Amelia said as she was rushing out.
“Oh… Okay, well safe travels, my love.” Sonya replied, very disappointed that she couldn’t spend more time with this lovely lady whom she had grown very fond of.
Amelia rushed out, and ran to the kingdom's walls. The kingdoms walls? She walked around it until she found it. A hole she had dug a few days prior. She had grown very curious. Everyone around town had rumours about the village, but no one knew for sure. Some said it was a dangerous wasteland of freaks who would slaughter you without a second thought. Others assumed that they all died, because who could live without a queen?
Once Amelia had gotten through the hole and back into town she ran back to her home. Back to the castle. When inside, she was escorted back to her room and waited. Her big brother, John, normally came and gave her a tongue lashing for being out for so long without a guard, but this time it was her mother. The queen. Yes, Amelia was a princess. She looked like one too. She had her mothers hair, dark brown. Her brother and her shared those traits. Alone with their fathers, deceased, nose and eyes. Their eyes were an emerald green shade, mesmerizing if you look at them.
While she waited on her mother to finish her lecture, at the very end her mother asked where she had gone.
“I went for a peaceful walk into town, Mother.” was always her answer, but normally for her brother. Amelia thought it was very weird, her mother was rarely interested in her life.
“Amelia, I just want you to stay safe. For that to happen,I can’t have you leaving the castle anymore.” Her mother said with a very serious voice, Amelia has never heard this voice before.
“Why? I’ve never broken any of your rules, and I can’t stay inside forever!” She started to get angry. If she couldn’t leave, she would never be able to see Sonya again, which frustrated her more than anything.
“Don’t argue with me, it’s for your own safety.” With that, the queen walked out of the room.
Amelia began to cry. She stayed awake for hours thinking about Sonya and how she would never be able to see her again. She would miss her long golden hair, her ocean eyes. Her beautiful face, her luscious lips. Everything about her was amazing to Amelia.
Inspiration struck her late that night. She realized that she was in love with her. She could not imagine a life without her. Once she saw her the first time she had no idea that she would feel like this. She didn’t even know that she could feel this way about another girl but she does. She also knew that there was no possible way that she could ever feel this way for anyone else.
Amelia had a plan. The next morning she would pack her things and sneak out of the castle, out of the kingdom, and go to her. Without Sonya, she would never be happy again.
Back in the village, Sonya spent the night thinking about Amelia as well. She just couldn’t stop thinking about her. It was love at first sight for the both of them. Sonya couldn’t wait to see Amelia again. She spent the night dreaming of Sonya. She was going to tell her tomorrow that she was crazy about her, and she was going to ask her to stay with her. Sonya hoped that Amelia felt the same way about her.
The next morning, at dawn, Amelia packed a bag with her favorite dresses, a few pictures of her family, a necklace that her grandmother gave her before she passed, and other small things. She opened her door and looked around to see if anyone was there. She began to leave. She was almost out of the castle when she ran into her brother, John.
“Where are you going, Amelia? Why do you have a bag?” He asked her, suddenly panicking. They were really close, but she still had to leave. So she told him everything. About Sonya, about the village, about everything. He understood and told her that he would visit every chance he got.
“I love you, sister. Be careful.” and with that he hugged her and left.
When she made it to the village, Sonya was already outside. As if waiting for her. When she saw Amelia they both took off running to each other. They met in the middle in a strong embrace. They held each other for a long while. When they separated Amelia looked Sonya in the eyes and said, “I never knew I could feel this way about a person, especially not a girl, but within the short time I’ve known you, I fell in love. I’m in love with you, Sonya. I want to be with you for the rest of my life. I want my forever, to be our forever. Will you be my forever, Sonya?” Instead of answering, Sonya kissed her. She kissed her soft and gentle, they became one. When they parted Sonya looked at Amelia And whispered, “Only if you will be my forever too.” They moved in together and lived and loved together for, well like they said, the rest of their forever.
