Chapter 1-First day of high school

6:00am

Alarm started to ring.

I stood up and signed. I couldn’t sleep very well during the night.

In fact I don’t remember the last time I had gotten enough sleep.

I got up, brushed my teeth and took my bath, wore my clothes and then looked at myself in the mirror. I have black skin, brown eyes, a dark circle formed around my eyes because of having some sleepless nights, and my long black hair covering one side of my face.

I signed, took my bag and went to the living room to eat my breakfast. “Good morning” I said to my mum who was in the kitchen.

She smiled “good morning my dear, did you get enough sleep today?”

I shook my head no. She signed “sit breakfast is almost ready”.

I look at my watch 20 minutes left before the bus arrives. As I sat down on the chair, my mum came with toast and fried egg with tea while my mum put coffee for herself.

“Aisha this is the first day of high school so please try not to get expelled this time around and try making some friends too.” she said.

I looked at her pleading eyes and sign. “I will try" I said.

She smiled and we continued eating.

Friends huh?

Once done eating I washed up the plates and rushed outside to the bus while my mum went to work in her car.

As I entered the bus people stared at me as I searched for an empty seat I found an empty seat close to the window.

I sat down put on my ear buds and ignored their stares and whispers. I looked out the window and started to imagine how my first day would be like, it was a silent ride to school for me even though the many people started talking again.

When I arrived at school everyone rushed out of the bus. I walk into the school in the hallway and I saw many people staring at me and whispering to one another. I started to become a bit nervous.

I walked to the principal’s office. I saw a lady around her 50s smiled at me and gestured for me to sit, which I did.

“Good morning” I greeted her and she responded with a good morning of her own, and she handed me my time table and I took it, muttering a “thank you” before leaving the office.

I was walking through the halls without looking where I was going. My eye was focused on the time table first I had geography.

Because I wasn't looking where I was going I accidentally bumped into a girl around my age. I stumbled backwards while she fell and landed on her butt. She was blond with blue eyes.

“Sorry” I said while offering her my hand to help her get up, as she was about to take it, when someone yell.

“Get your hands off my sister you creep!”. Three boys rushed towards me. I look up at them a bit confused as t the sudden hostility.

Everyone’s eyes were on them, some girls looking at them with googly eyes and boys with envy.

She took my hand and stood up. She gave a small smile when she was about to say something when one of the boys dragged her to his side. Which I guess is her brother because they look alike. He had a brown blond hair, some hair falling in front and the back a is cut a bit short, and the same blue eyes.

“Are you okay?”

“Did she hurt you?”

She scoffed at him “No she just accidentally bombed into me, and I can take care of myself you know?"

She looked at me and asked "What’s your name?"

Maybe this is my chance to make new friends. I thought to myself.

My name is Aisha Williams, I said while extending my hand for a hand shake. My name Marcel she said trying to shake but her brother slapped my hand away. “I don’t want to see you anywhere near my sister” he said in an angered tone.

“I knew it wouldn’t work”. It made me feel a bit sad. He pulled her away, they turned their back and walked away.

Everyone was watching all this time. Marcel looked back and gave me an apologetic look as they walked away.

“I guess that’s what I get for trying”. I hurried to my first class of the day before I got late.
