Chapter 1

Disclaimer: This is just a PJO/Shield AU, none of the events from any Avenger movie will happen, although they may meet the Avengers at one point.

All the main characters (Percy, Jason, Maria, Clint, and Nat) are the same age.

This happens many years before SHIELD goes to shit.

Most of the events from PJO do not happen either. There will be scenes at camp, but Neither Percy nor Jason were aware of it before the start of the fan fiction . Neither smelly Gabe or annabeth are in this fan fiction. Percy’ s mom used to work for shield.

We will sadly not see Camp Jupiter.

Agent Names/POVs:

Riptide

The SHIELD agent knocked on my door three months ago. Offering a job as a spy, an assassin, a messengers at a secret government organization. I said yes.

They haven’t gotten back to me.

I act like I’m not pissed about it, but maybe I am. At least contact me again after you offer me a job as an assassin! It’s rude!

I haven’t told anyone but Annabeth about the job, but she’s in New Rome, not wanting to go on break, and I’m stuck here, having to listen to the love story of Wilco every. Single. Day.

At first I supported it, but it’s just so sappy.

So I decided that I’m moving into an apartment. Today.

Chiron gave me some money, and I got the movers to bring all my stuff over. It’s been a tedious process, but I picked a one bedroom one bathroom apartment on a lower floor of an office building in a slightly deserted, if possible, area of New York.

I flop onto the bed and sigh. I wish Annabeth was here. She would walk over to where I’m lying, give me a kiss on the cheek and promise me many more.

She wouldn’t tell me that I’d be okay, but that we’d be together.

And now we’re not. She’s in New Rome and I foolishly decided to take leave for Summer break and accept a job position in some secret government agency.

She seemed to think it was a good idea, but it means we probably won’t see each other for a while. If they even get back to me.

As if on queue, there is a ringing at my door. “Who’s there?” I ask.

“Agent Fury.” A gruff voice answers. Oh.

I open the door and find a familiar eye-patch ‘looking’ back at me.

“Fury.” I address him with the smallest amount of respect, because I do respect him, not that I would admit it.

“Jackson. Come with me.” I have no choice but to follow him, as I know from last time that he has a gun.

Fury leads me down to the lobby, and instead of leaving, we turn into the office building Starbucks, where he orders two iced coffees, and we sit down in a booth.

“I don’t drink coffee.” I tell him.

“But I do.” He says, and as if to prove his point, he all but drains them both.

“So we made the arrangements for your disappearance, and eventual death. I’m giving you twenty-four hours to tell your loved ones, and then you better hurry over to the location I texted you.”

It seems rather sudden, but I nod and check my phone and find a location, possibly a SHIELD base.

“Got it.”

Then Fury grabs my hand and slams it on the table. “What sort of powers do you have?”

We established last time that SHIELD knew I was a demigod, but I didn’t expect him to directly ask me.

“Um... hydrokinesis, healing. I can talk to horses, if that helps?”

He seems unamused but impressed. “We’ll have to test that. Would you like us to tell your fellow recruits of your demigod status?”

I shake my head. “No. I want to start off on an even footing.”

And it would be detrimental to the survival of camp half blood to tell a bunch of would-be assassins about the camp.

Fury understands this and doesn’t question me more about it. He then tells me they’ll be paying me a number with so many zeroes I think I’m gonna faint.

“Sounds great.” I manage to say, dryly. But I suspect he knows how happy I was about that.

He reaches over to shake my hand. “This job is of utmost secrecy. You must tell only your closest friends of what it is, and never tell anyone the details of the jobs. Understand?”

We shake on it.

As I’m getting up from my chair to go tell Camp, I cut myself on a shard from a broken wine glass.

I swear, just for a second, the blood flashes gold.

I tell Chiron all about the job when I reach the Big House. He seems surprised but also unconcerned.

“I know all about SHIELD. A little meddling, but we’ll be fine. I’ll tell the camp you’ve enlisted in the military.” He winks as if we share a joke, but I feel uneasy.

As if I’m leaving the camp unguarded.

I dismiss the thought and head out, stopping at a gas station to Iris message Annabeth.

I can create the mist now, from my hands.

“Yo Fleecy, do me a solid. Show me Annabeth Chase in New Rome.”

Her face fills the mist. “Percy!” I love her.

“They got back to me about the job. I got it!” I tell her. She seems happy for Mel if not a little disappointed.

“I probably won’t see you for a while then.” I nod. “But I’ll IM you all the time! Don’t worry! I’m fine!”

She blows me a kiss. “Percy... my little assassin!”

I End the call and get back into my car. Just one more stop.

Mom’s apartment is cluttered and Estelle is everywhere.

I love that child, but she is so messy, even as a one year old. She can say ‘momma’ and ‘dadda’ and ‘pecy’ and ‘touble’. She’s having a hard time with her ’r’s. At least she can’t say murder yet.

Mom is making cookies in the kitchen. Blue cookies, thankfully. “Percy!” She calls. “How are you?”

I tell her about the job at SHIELD, and her face falls at ‘assassin’. “So you’ll be killing... humans?”

I hadn’t thought of that. “For the government. For a good cause.”

She laughs. “And who says the government isn’t corrupt?” The government.

I sigh. “It’s a good opportunity to make a change, mom. Please tell me you support me in this.”

She puts her forehead to mine. “Always.”

Viper

There is a new recruit on the team today. They call him Riptide, and he is hot like the sun.

When he walked in this morning, I swear all the girls but me swooned. His hair is dark and sea-swept and his eyes are the sea.

Even I felt myself blushing. Though that came to an end after he told us that he had a girlfriend.

I looked to Clint then, to see his reaction. Clint’s eyes lit up. I’ve never known him to be attracted to boys, but this wasn’t any boy.

He is the calm before the storm, and the eye of the storm. He looks ready to fight like a hurricane, and fight his way through a hurricane. I want to be on his side.

I know that me and Clint are a few years older than him, so is he nineteen? Pretty young for a SHIELD recruit, pretty old for a Red Room recruit. But he seems as if he’d been an agent for years.

“How did you get recruited?” Clint asks him now. We are having lunch in the dining hall.

Riptide shrugs. “Fury just showed up and asked me. I was living a normal life before this, fighting at a pretty cool summer camp. I guess he knew about it.”

Oh. He’s like Jason. “You’re like Jason?”

That catches him by surprise. “I know Jason. He works here?”

I nod. Not this team, though. He’s a monster.

Clint doesn’t really seem to connect the dots. “What’s your name, your real name?”

Riptide laughs. “Perseus, but you can call me Percy.”

A Greek hero. Like Jason. So probably a mutant. I heard horrible things about Jason’s ‘camp’. They tortured the kids there. Made the kids climb walls of lava, fight each other will deadly swords and knives at thirteen, scarred them.

From Jason himself, although he calls it a safe place. As smart as he is, he was brainwashed. And SHIELD seems to do nothing about it.

They support that abuse? I look at Percy, study him. He has scars all over his arms and neck, if none on his face. In the SHIELD uniform, it will be covered, but now he just wears a... Camp T-shirt. Oh.

They call it Camp Half-Blood. Half what? I’ve always wondered. Jason always seems a little otherworldly.

I think I am a little afraid of him, I’m glad he’s not on my team.

I just hope we don’t have another Jason on our hands.

“So does your girlfriend attend this camp, too?” Clint asks. He seems to understand now.

Percy nods. “Pretty much... all my friends do. I don’t get out much, and no technology inside camp either...so...” he shrugs.

No technology? Trying to keep them away from news of the outside world? No friends outside of camp?

This is sounding more like a cult every minute.

Percy seems to get that vibe, and he laughs. “It’s not a cult or whatever. I think.” He seems in thought. “Kind of.”

He picks up a piece of pizza and stares at it. “So what are your real names, Viper? Hawkeye?”

I smile, despite a growing feeling of horror and despair in my gut for this poor kid. “This is Clint.

I’m Maria.”
