Prolog

My life could have been very different, but I guess you could say I was doomed from the beginning. My mother never finished school and shacked up with my father at 16. They never married, so when he left just after my 3rd birthday and never came back. My mother had no rights to receive compensation from him. The law was clear only a married woman could go after her husband for abandoning his child. That's just my luck.

My mother tried her best, worked two jobs and did housework on the side. Just to keep us out of debt, but no one can keep that up for ever. When I was around 8 years old she got really sick and could no longer keep that life style up. So began our downwards spiral. It didn't take long for the bills to pile up and the debtors to come calling. The rent and medical Bill's were the worst of it. Even with her health problems my mom was a beautiful woman, so I think the state let her debt get just bad enough, so she would not be able to dig her way out. So at about nine and a half years old I was taken by the state. My mother was taken to the womens debt house. It's funny that they call it the womens debt house because being there you never are able to work your way out. The state likes it that way, because it's really a state run brothel.

You have to understand the way our world works, if you can't pay your debts women are sent to the womens work house (aka the brothel). Where you provide sexual favors for anyone that is willing to pay for them. Once a woman is sent there unless you are a customer you never see them again and they never make enough to leave. On the other hand men do hard labor that is very dangerous, most are lucky if they last five years. Because of this they actually earn a wage as well as paying down their debt. Women basically get room and board but nothing that they can call there own.

So on to my situation, since I was ten and half years old I have been acquiring debt, nothing is free. You go to the kids shelter till they find a home for you, it costs. You end up in a foster home, it costs. So I have been in debt since ten and a half. At fifteen I started working to pay my own way. Almost everything I made went to the lady that was raising me. Unfortunately she was collecting from me and the state. So even though I had receipts from her that state billed to me.

So here I am at nineteen and working my ass off, working two jobs trying to pay down my debt before I get sentenced to the womans work house. There is one other option available to me but I'm not sure I should take it. I like to call it plan "B". In the last few years people have been allowed to auction a set period of there life off to pay there debts off. It's legal and binding. How it works is you agree to basically be a slave for set period of time, like a year. The state takes what is raised to cover you debt even if it's less than you owe. The best part is if it's more than your debt you get it awarded to you once your time is up.

I'm really getting close to choosing plan B. I'm over twenty thousand dollars in debt. I'm working two jobs and barely keeping up with the interest owed. I can't seem to make any real dent in it. At the rate I'm going and with my luck I will be in the work house by the end of the year. So now you know my story and tomorrow I'm going to talk to the state auction house. To see if one year of my life will pay off my debt.
