Chapter 1: New Thief In Town

A new Phantom Thief appearing out of nowhere right after the old ones retired? That's more likely than you would think. Oh well, at least it's an interesting scoop!

I stared at the top of the museum, where the new Thief was standing, surrounded by police cars and helicopters. She had short cyan hair, and her right eye was closed, though I don't think she was winking.

Thief Girl held a megaphone and raised her other fist in the air.

"Welcome to the Show, folks!" she yelled. "I am Phantom Thief Setsuka, the daughter of the Phantom Thieves that just retired! You can't find me, sweethearts, trust me. I never existed."

What the hell is that supposed to mean?

She continued, "Now, watch as I steal half the artifacts in the building."

And then she disappeared.

At this point, the police had tried to open the doors. It didn't work. Then they tried shooting through the glass. The bullets didn't shoot. They even tried punching and kicking the glass. It still didn't work.

"H-hey," one officer stammered. "I don't even see her!"

"Me either!" shouted a second on the other side of the building.

"All I see is portals warping away the artifacts!" the first officer noticed.

The other officers all muttered a different version of the word "Same!"

Setsuka reappeared at the museum's top again. "Suckers!"

Someone shot a gun at her. The bullet went right through her, no damage done to her at all.

"What the hell?" I asked. I then slammed my hands over my mouth. No one knew I was here, and now maybe they'd think I was an accomplice.

Luckily, Setsuka had my back.

"Oh, my parents warned me of you! Nikei Yomiuri, was it? You reported on them a few months before they quit, if I remember correctly." She called from the building top.

"That's right!" I replied. "And I'm sure I'll figure out your whole family's secrets before you retire! Or die!"

She disappeared again.

She's crazy skilled!

"Oh, but Yomiuri-San..." a voice whispered.

I looked to my left to see her inches from my face.

"I will never die~!"
