βBecause I canβt live without you, my Angel. Please say you will be only mine. - Your Devil"
My hands sat flush against the cool windowpane as I stared longingly across the void, studying Damienβs last message in the window. My eyes dropped down, scanning the second page he had taped below. βIn vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you. - Mr. Darcyβ
Nearly three weeks. It had been nearly three fucking weeks. I didnβt even get to say goodbye to him, hold him tight, kiss his sweet soft lips before he left.
I understood that he had to leave. I shouldnβt be feeling like this, but I couldnβt help it. I fucking missed him.
So did Pandora.
We hadnβt spoken since he left. I had sent the occasional text message, to which he never responded. I was doing my best to be supportive in what he needed but it hurt. It hurt so fucking much to know that he was fine without talking to me for three weeks.
When I had arrived home from Tammyβs house that Sunday morning, I walked into my living room and the site in the window stopped me in my tracks. Every message he had left prior, made sense. This is what it had all been leading up to. Making our relationship official.
Dropping everything in my hands, I had run over to his house. His door was locked, and he didnβt answer. I no longer had the key he had given to me, returning it during one of my trips over there. It didnβt feel right keeping it at the time.
I wanted to jump into his arms and scream, βYes! Yes I will be yours!β. I never got that opportunity. Life was a cruel bitch sometimes.
I shook my head and scolded myself internally. Everything he was going through, and I was upset that I never got to say βyesβ to being his. What was wrong with me?
I didnβt know when he would be back. On the third day, I had taped my response in the window, where it still sat, unseen.
Reluctantly, I pushed away from the window, detouring to the bookshelf, allowing my fingers to glide over the unopened brown paper package that was still sitting there. I walked up the stairs to my cold, empty bed once again, to fall asleep alone.

βMichlenin, McDeer and Associates. How may I help you?β I answered the ringing phone as cheerfully as possible.
βYou arenβt responding to your texts!β Shrieked Tammyβs panicked voice. βWe are going to be late!β
I looked at the clock on the wall. 12:10pm. Shit. She has been waiting for 10 minutes now. βIβm sorry. I will be right down.β
I hung up without waiting for a response, quickly set the phone to βawayβ, grabbed my purse and rushed down the hallway to the elevator. The ride down was long, giving me time to replay mine and Damienβs encounter in my mind. Every single time I stood in this elevator alone, the images would whip though my head in a heated frenzy.
I burst through the front doors of the building, spotting Tammyβs car directly in front and ran over, jumping in quickly. βIβm sorry, Iβm sorry, Iβm sorry.β
She shot me a glare as her foot stomped down on the gas pedal and we roared away. βWhen are you going to get that piece of shit fixed?β
I groaned, exasperated. βThe transmission is toast. Itβs not worth it to replace or fix it. I will just have to keep an eye out for something affordable. Plus, walking to and from work hasnβt been so bad. Keeps me fit, and gives me time to think.β
Think about Damien.
A short drive later and we were pulling into the parking lot. She turned off the car but just stared straight ahead, not moving.
βAre you ready for this?β I asked, quietly.
She nodded her head but still didnβt move. I reached over and placed one hand on top of hers, on the steering wheel. I squeezed gently.
βHey, itβs going to be great. You got this.β I made sure my voice was as calming and reassuring as possible.
She fumbled with the keys as she pulled them from the ignition, lifted her head high, forced a smile, then turned to me. βI got this.β
I followed her into the office, taking a seat at the back, while she checked herself in. Her name was called just as she took the seat next to mine. βYouβre coming, right?β
I nodded, stood and followed behind her. We were led to an examination room at the end of a long hallway. The nurse handed her a gown told her to put it on and walked out.
Not very friendly, that one.
After a few minutes, the doctor walked in. He was short, pudgy and middle aged. He was wearing glasses that were halfway down his round nose and had a warm, kind smile on his face.
βGood afternoon, Tammy. Itβs wonderful to see you again! I hear that this is an exciting appointment!β He greeted, his voice higher pitched than I was expecting.
Tammy shrugged her shoulders and looked away from the doctor. She was nervous. Hell, I was nervous.
βAs you know, the bloodwork has confirmed that you are indeed pregnant. According to the information given, I am pinpointing it to around 8 weeks now, but we wonβt be able to tell for sure until your first ultrasound. Today, we are going to do a physical examination, as well as try to listen for the heartbeat.β He glanced toward me. βAre you okay if your friend is present at that time.β
βYes!β She nearly shouted. βI mean, yes. Sorry. She isnβt leaving me.β
She laid back on the exam table and I walked to the head of it, grasping her hand in mine. We both sat quietly while the doctor went through the examination. I squeezed her hand tightly as he grabbed a small machine and lifted the bottom of her gown. βPlease keep in mind that we may not hear a heartbeat. That does not mean that there is anything wrong. A lot of factors will play into whether or not we can hear it today.β
After a few brief moments, the sound began to echo into the room. It was the fastest heartbeat I had ever heard, and it instantly brought tears to my eyes. Tammy squeezed my hand tightly and when I looked down at her, her own tears were streaming down her cheeks.
We finished the appointment and walked silently to the car. We both sat, not speaking a word, taking it all in.
βI need to tell Tommy.β She finally whispered, so quietly, I barely heard her.
I nodded my head but didnβt say anything. I had been thinking the same thing, but I wasnβt going to push her.
We drove back to the office, not a single word said. As she pulled up, I turned to her and beamed brightly. βThis is going to be amazing Tammy. And Tommy will be thrilled. I just know it.β
She smiled back, still looking unsure as she said goodbye.
The moment I was back to my desk and turning the phones back on, it was ringing. βMichlenin, McDeer and Associates. How may I help you?β
βHey, Geni, did you finish with that file I gave to you this morning?β It was Mr. Conners, a lawyer from the second floor. I had offered my services to anyone that needed them while Damien was away. It kept me busy during the days and stopped my mind from wandering.
βIt is, Mr. Conners. Would you like me to bring it down to you?β I rifled through my pile and pulled out the one he was inquiring about.
βThat would be great! Thank you, Geni.β He replied before hanging up.
As I stepped off the elevator on the second floor, I could instantly hear screaming. Instead of heading left, to Mr. Conners office, I turned right, to peak around the corner. There, in the conference room with the glass walls, was Damien, and he looked pissed.
Damien
The flight back home had been long, and I was exhausted. The moment I landed, I went straight to the office. I didnβt even stop at home. I had a 12:30 appointment that I was going to be late for. Fuck.
Joseph McDeer was already waiting for me, with a smug look on his face. Prick. I hated the guy and he hated me just as equally. He had been Earlβs managing partner, now my managing partner.
This was the meeting to finalize all the paperwork.
I sat down across from him and raked my fingers through my hair. I did not want to be here.
βHow was the flight? He asked, trying to appear polite. I was guessing that it was due to the lawyer sitting in front of us. He was not a part of our firm and someone I had yet to meet.
βLong.β I responded, before turning to the man at the head of the table. I shook his hand and introduced myself, βDamien Vanderbrooke.β
βBarry Stills.β He replied returning my handshake. βI have another appointment after this, so we need to move this along. Youβre late.β
Great. Heβs a prick too.
He placed a copy of the paperwork in front of me and I stared down at it. I really did not want to be here.
He went through the basics of it but then paused. βAs per your fatherβs instructions there was a new clause added, here.β He said as he flipped the page and pointed down at a paragraph.
I read over it. Then read it again. I looked up at him wide eyed, before returning my eyes and rereading it for a third time.
βWhat the fuck is this?β I growled, slamming my fist on the table.
He read it aloud. The words had not changed from the first three times that I read it. I looked up at Joseph who still had that same smug look on his face.
I stood up, grabbing the document and throwing it across the table, papers scattering everywhere. βTHERE IS NO FUCKING WAY!β I roared, both fists slamming down on to the table now. βHE CANβT FUCKING DO THAT!β
Both men winced from the power of my voice. I was shaking with anger.
βActually, Mr. Vanderbrooke, he can. And he did. He has made it very clear.β The fucking prick across from me had the audacity to speak up.
Movement caught the corner of my eye and I turned to see Geni, standing outside of the room. Our eyes locked. My chest was heaving from my outburst and Iβm sure I looked every bit of the Devil that she had coined me as. She was staring at me with that doe-eyed look that I had come to love.
Her hair was up in a slicked back ponytail, no makeup on her face except that lip gloss that made her lips look shiny and oh so kissable. She was wearing a dark green silk blouse with ruffles at the top tucked into a high waisted, tight, black skirt that came mid-thigh. Every curve was accentuated in just the right place. The sight of her took my breath away. I shook the thoughts out of my head.
I turned back to the two men and pointed down at the strewn papers. βIβm not fucking signing that. You can shove it up your ass.β
βAs per the stipulations, if it is not signed within the next 30 days, you will completely forfeit everything. All involvement in Michlenin, McDeer and Associates. You will lose all shares; you will lose everything listed here.β The man at the head of the table stated.
My eyes met Josephβs and narrowed angrily. βDid you know?β
He stared at me with that smug fucking smile. βI canβt wait for you to fuck this up Damien, and when you are no longer here, that pretty little assistant of yours will be bringing me coffee and sucking my cock.β
I jumped across the table before I even had time to think about it, tackling Joseph to the ground. I landed one solid punch to his pompous, ugly face before I was pulled off.
Now I understood why there was a security guard in the corner of the room when I had entered it. They expected me to lose my shit.
He dragged my body off Josephβs and held me back as I struggled against him. βGet the fuck off me.β I growled as I shook him off.
I turned on my heel and stormed out of there. Geni was nowhere to be seen. I wanted to see her so God damned bad, but I couldnβt. I just couldnβt.
I pressed the main floor button on the elevator. When I stepped inside, flashes of my time with Geni, crept into my head. My hands running all over her body. That mouth on mine. My fingers deep inside of her pussy. Her perfect fucking immaculate pussy.
When I reached the lobby, I ignored Tracy who attempted to greet me and continued stalking out of the front door.
I needed a fucking drink.
I walked three blocks then entered the pub that I frequented in my old days. It was a little hole in the wall, run down, shitty establishment. Exactly what I needed right now.
I went to the far back, by the pool table, grabbing a table tucked away from all the action. I didnβt want to talk. I didnβt want to socialize. I wanted to get fucked up.
The waitress approached, swinging her wide hips dramatically and sat down on the chair opposite me. She looked to be at least a few years older than I, blonde curly hair with brown roots, heavy makeup, tiny thin lips and a nose that was too small for her face. The name tag said her name was Molly. My eyes moved to her tits. Shit. Her tits were big, perky and on display. I pulled my eyes from them before she got the wrong idea.
βWhat can I get for ya, sugar?β She drawled, placing one hand on top of mine. She was ballsy too.
I pulled my hand away quickly, hoping she got the message. βBourbon on the rocks. Double. And keep them coming.β
She smiled and walked away, shaking her ass as she went. Within two minutes, she was back. She leaned down a little further than necessary, flashing her tits right in my face. βMenu?β
I shook my head and kept my head down.
Please go away. Just leave me the fuck alone.
When I looked back up, she was gone, thankfully.
I gulped down the drink in less than a minute. It took her no more than another two before a new drink was in front of me. Perfect. She will be getting a huge tip, tonight, and not because of her tits.
My phone dinged and I reached into my pocket, pulling it out, setting it on the table.
It was from Geni. I opened the message.
Geni: I didnβt realize that you were coming back today. I wish we could have talked.
I put the phone back down on the table, facedown, then swallowed down the next drink, the hot liquid fire singeing satisfyingly on the way down.
What the fuck was I going to do? I had 30 days.
The words on the document that had caused my freak out, replayed in my mind.
β...you will not engage in any form of intimate dalliance with Genevieve Sanderson.β
Fuck.
