BRILLIANT
"Read this book in a couple of sittings and have kept it!!! Not one to read books again, but the story, the atmosphere, the descriptions, the humour, all right up my Blackpool street. Very cleverly written, sets the scene from the start, love how you get to really know the characters, must've looked an idiot smiling reading the humour, but also felt emotional. All in all, enjoyed it immensely. If this is the start of a writing career in novels, count me in for every book. Genius. Highly recommended."
Glued!
"I wasn't sure quite what to expect from the first few pages, but it piqued my interest. Then, the more I read, the more glued I became, and I couldn't put it down. It made me chuckle in places, invoked anger in others, and I was absorbed into the characters. Good work!"
Out of Season
"A great read. I genuinely wouldn't have thought that there would be so much humor to be found in 80's Blackpool.....................but that just shows what I know. The English language is a wonderfully malleable tool in the right hands and the author's turn of phrase here is absolutely on the money I'd agree with other reviewers that this is a great way to brighten up even the dullest of commutes and I'll be keeping an eye out for anything this guy does in the future - one to watch."
Funny, clever, brilliant.
"The author really brought the characters to life with clever description of their feelings and attitudes. I felt like I knew the people and was quickly swept into their world. It was hard to stop reading as I wanted to know what happened next! The writer used humour brilliantly to defuse some of the brutal parts of the story. A really enjoyable read and I hope to see more work from this talented writer."
Loved it
"I was recommended to read this by a friend and thank god for that recommendation! I was hooked from the word go! I love being able to imagine characters, what they are wearing, their mannerisms and I could do this from the first word! The characters are created with such detail for me it was like watching a film, before I knew it I was a few chapters in without even noticing! The perfect sign of something special, very special."
Loved it!
"Love this book. Laugh out loud funny and poignant in places too. The descriptions of time and place are perfect and the characters are brilliant. Definitely one to read again later on and lend to others. My attention was grabbed from the first page and the plot twists and turns so you can,t predict the ending too early. Highly recommended."
A superb read from start to finish...
"A beautiful read that had me gripped from the first chapter. I quite often whizz through books & form an overall opinion at the end. With 'Out of season' I found myself reading for 20/30mins and putting it down for the next sitting to spread out my enjoyment & laughter at this thoroughly engaging read. Set in an 80's Blackpool, [which is depicted perfectly by the obviously naturally talented author,] the story takes you on a journey in the life of a young man/boy named Tony. We get to enjoy the up's and the inevitable downs of Tony's hectic life in this seaside resort, This read will grab you, take you in, make you feel sorry for Tony, laugh with Tony, cringe for Tony but most of all love Tony & all he stands for. For me it's a mix of [If you can remember] One Summer with Billy & Icky & Snatch ! Random eh! A beautiful read & I'm just hoping there's a sequel that's due ! More please Author....."
BRILLIANTLY FUNNY
"This is beach book, bed book and a bath book but most of all it's a brilliant book! This book makes any commute too short!"

"I read a lot of books so have developed my own internal 'code' for deciding if a book is well written. It's a very simple strategy; if I start imagining what the characters look like and who would play them in the film version, then it's a good book. Out of Season had me doing this by the second chapter. The characters are well rounded and identifiable. The author's tour of Blackpool's hidden world that the millions of visitors have no clue about, is so well written I now fancy my chances as a bandit 'bandit'. The humour effortlessly travels between between belly laughs and clever suggestion. And I found myself laughing and grinning as if I was in the company of the characters on the page. I loved this book and wish I could buy Tony a drink, Big Frank a dinner and Benny a best mate badge."
A very enjoyable read
"I have always got my head in a book and even though this isn't the type of book I usually read, I decided to give it a go. I'm glad I did as I really enjoyed it. It was very funny and a very easy read but really hard to put down, so don't start it if you are due to be anywhere any time soon."
Loved it
"Very very funny!! The writing is so wonderfully full and descriptive with perfectly formed and well rounded characters I laughed out loud lots of times. I highly reccomend this book for some lighthearted escapism into a surburbly written plot about Blackpool in the 1980's and the people we meet along the way! Perfect for the daily commute or a easy holiday read. Great book!!"
Really enjoyed it, laughed a lot
"Funniest book I’ve read for ages. Great story that keeps you interested, takes a few chapters to get into it, there are a lot of great characters to learn but they all deserve their place and are important to the plot which gets better and better as the story develops. I’ve had to stop reading for laughing several times."
Great Story!
"Really Good Read, read it through in one sitting. deffo worth a look got me through my tube journey to work."
great storytelling, really, really funny
"Read this in 2 sittings! love the Blackpool insiders view. Really funny, some clever scenes too and a great plot that draws you in and makes you want to read on. Nice twists too. all in all a really great read, thoroughly enjoyed it. I expect I'll be reading it again fairly soon"
Couldn't Put It Down
"I'm a trashy novel/chick lit kind of girl, so this felt a bit of a departure from my usual reads when I first started it. However within a page or two I was hooked. The characters are so brilliantly vivid and recognisable that you are transported into their world and fully engrossed in the action in no time. It is brilliantly written, evocative without being over indulgent and is also (importantly for me) very funny! I laughed out loud on so many occasions and was genuinely drawn into the drama( it has a great plot) from beginning to end. If you want some great escapism, light hearted and funny, but with plenty going on to keep you reading, the give this a read. Perfect for a holiday read or to perk up the commute! Loved it."
a fantastic story
"The comedy is original and genuinely funny, I have laughed out loud many times reading this book. But the story and the plot are also really engaging. The opening two or three chapters seem quite character-dense but they all soon come to life and there is no padding, filling or wasted time reading unnecessary stuff. There is a real feel for Blackpool in the 80's (when it is set) and the story just flies along right up to the finale, the climax. There's tension, drama, twists and lots of laughs. A really well written, funny and engrossing book that I shall read again."
